  • A Year on Staff with the CAVALCADE

Bottom Row: Jessica Shaffer, Jaime Conley, Dana Keller, AshleeArtman, Danyelle Huff, Jennifer Peacock, Stephanie Good, Sarah Welch, Ashlee Holcomb, Cassie Schuldt. Top Row: Angela Campbell, Sara Thomas, Heather Reynolds, Dayna Kelsey, Ashley Mahler, Blake Scroggs, Valerie White, Ashley Minix, Sean Johnson, Tyler Weldon.

    Sarah Welch works with the

    new digital imaging

    program, finishing the golf pages.

Sarah brought in the most ad

    sales in the class and

    always answered,

Stephanie Good (right) works hard on a yearbook "Sure!" with a spread, while Jennifer Peacock reclines and gives smile, when directions! Seriously though, the girls worked well asked to do together on several pages this year. something.

A note to the staff from your moody, half-crazed adviser:

Because I know I didn't say it often enough, I want to here and now, forever in print: THANK YOU ALL, from the bottom of my heart. This was not an easy year for me, trying to learn how to do this yearbook thing and at the same time make it something new and special, something worth holding onto. I know that I wasn't always the easiest person to work with or for, and I appreciate the tolerance you showed me and the effort you all put into the book you are now holding in your hands.

I sincerely hope the experience was worthwhile. I hope you seniors have some great memories to take with you from helping to produce this book, and I hope you underclassmen are willing to come back and give it another go. I can hardly wait to see what we'll accomplish together next year.

To those of you who did not work on our staff but supported us in other ways, thank you too. Thank you for submitting pictures and quotes, for taking pictures for us, and for (of course!) buying the book! It is for all of you that we do what we do.

Ms. Gardner Tyler Weldon seems to have lost his fingers up his nose. Blake Scroggs and Ashlee Holcomb still found the latest Weldon stunt amusing.

If it has anything to do with The Seniors, Mary Lee had her hands on it. She spent many hours at the computer and had great pride in her work.

Although it is hard to be busy all the time, Ashley Mahler (hiding herself from view), Jessica Shaffer, Ashley Minix, and Valerie White each contributed significantly to the production of the book.

watermelon eating contest and the tricycle race, some people may have barely noticed some of the booths and clubs sponsored. Others, like the Juniors' car-bashing booth, back for a second year, were a "smash."

The cheerleaders topped off the rally near the end of the afternoon, getting everyone pepped up for the night's game against the New Prairie Cougars. A l l of the team's seniors spoke to the crowd and encouraged them to show up to support the team during the game.

To finish up the day, the faculty positioned themselves on the sideline to judge the students in the stands. The classes competed against each other - trying to cheer the loudest - to decide who would be dismissed first. Though each class thought their own was the loudest, the faculty chose the seniors and went from there. As the student body left the field, you could really feel the school spirit, the purpose for the day's event.

On Sept. 13, Culver Community High School hosted their annual Homecoming against the New Prairie Cougars. Despite their loss of 14-42, everyone still had a great time.

During the half time, the Homecoming court came out looking better than ever. The Senior class consisted of Stacy Stevens escorted by T.J Montgomery, Mary Lee escorted by Kameran Snyder, Jackie Ziaja escorted by Matt Peterson, and Julie Thompson escorted by Tony Scott. The Junior class consisted of Criston Quimby escorted by Eddie Molebash, and Jamie Conley escorted by Jon Broeker. The Sophomore class consisted of Ashley Thomas escorted by Chris Boyne, and Elizabeth Williams escorted by Joel Samuelson. After the football game, there was a Homecoming dance held for all high school members and alumni.

But with the guidance of Coach Barb Stevens and their own determination, both members received numerous awards and personal bests throughout their Season. By Dayna Kelsey

The Cavs left their homefield With a 6-5 loss to last year's Class A number one team (who were also in the top five for most of2003), the Pioneer Panthers. The Cavs finished the season with a 2-26 record. Culver is looking for a good season next year as they are only losing two seniors.

"We played really well aginst Pioneer and we should have won. But next year, with our easier sectional, we should be able to advance farther in the State Tournament. We have some great pitchers coming back and we have our experience now," said Junior Tyler Weldon.

And through the week students became salespeople (and in some cases, beggars-wonder where the lunch money went that you loaned Tyler Weldon?) as they worked to sell paper megaphones to earn points and benefit Riley Children's Hospital. As a testament to our student body, close to $1,300 was raised for the hospital. Moments of generosity, moments of laughter, moments of cooperation. It all led up to the biggest moment...

Juniors Jamie Conley and Blake Scroggs discover beauty The theme, "All you other classes can take a siesta, cuz fiesta," proved prophetic. They took top honors in the wall

truly is in the "eyes" of the beholder, the juniors are gonna win this decoration competition.

With her usual dramatic flair, Freshmen Scarlett Russell expounds on her ideas for the class wall. Fellow Freshmen Kim Snyder listened intently, but classmate Stephanie Lewis kept her distance and just stayed busy. They did well in the competition, coming in second to the juniors.

Sophomore Lindsey Ahlenius dives into construction of the class wall. In case you were wondering, she did keep all of her fingers.

Cassie Schuldt models her lastest fashion statement. Friday night, many of her classmates followed her lead and wore decorated wifebeaters.

Sophomore Ashlee Holcomb and Junior Criston Quimby hug, even though they were working hard to beat each other in the competition. Or was Criston working a heavy-duty chokehold on Ashlee?

Freshmen Jessica Jelinek grins as she works on the freshmen wall.

They raced on tricycles and scooters. They linked arms and legs and crab walked across the gym floor. They mustered in groups and fought hard in tug-of-war competitions. They cheered, they sang, they danced. But above all, they came together, a whole school for one night, and strung together moments of friendly competition that they w i l l remember for years and years to come. When it was all said and done, the Seniors came out on top and won the 2003 Sports Spectacular.

welcomed State Representative Steve Heim, in honor of "Invite Your State Legistator to Lunch Week." The Indiana School Food Service Association instituted this week as a way to inform state officals about child nutrition.

Currently, the ISFA is working to eliminate the reduced-cost breakfasts and offer free meals to eligible children. However, at this time there are no state funds mandated for this cause.

Culver Community Schools' population includes 25 percent of students eligible for reduced-cost breakfasts or free lunches. School Food Sevice Coordinator Carin Clifton decided to institute this special week at Culver to inform state officials about our school's need for this mandate.

"Right now we serve about 90 breakfasts a day. If we could offer this meal free to some children we could ensure they were getting a good meal," Clifton stated.

During his visit at Culver High, Heim spoke to the juniors and seniors about his career and various political issues. He also spoke to school treasurer Rose Master about our school's government lunch reimbursement program.

Shannon Lewis asks Mr. Heim what sports teams he follows.

Heim chats with Superintendent Brad Schuldt after eating a delicious school lunch.

    T h e O n e , F i n a l M o m e n t . . . It is the last time they w i l l all stand as one.

On this day, their shared laughter w i l l echo in each other's memories. On this day, they wi l l share a final embrace, shed a common tear, and leave Culver Community High School truly as individuals. They are the Class of2003.

When Erin Stotler addressed her classmates and their families and friends, she asked everyone to consider their graduation an adventure.

"Small or large, an adventure is, by definition, an experience that is marked by excitement and purpose," Stotler remarked, explaining that adventure is created with imagination. "Well, graduates," she continued, "we HAVE used our imaginations. Together, we have created numerous unforgettable, exploratory, and life-forming adventures!"

Offering advice to her classmates, Megan Girton urged them to "cherish time, your most valuable resource. You can never make up time you lose. Do the most productive thing possible at every given moment.

Girton concluded with the class motto: "To the class of2003, there are so many roads we have crossed, so many hills we have climbed, and so many dreams yet to conquer. Congratulations to all and good luck in the future."

Erin Stotler (left) addresses her senior class during Commencement. She urged her classmates to seek great adventures in the lives they were beginning.
