1. From the Records and Briefs page Click Advanced Search from the right navigation menu.

This will take you into the CONTENTdm database Advance Search Screen
To select the collection you want to search you will need to focus on the bottom portion of the Advanced Search screen.
2. The Advanced Search Screen:
a) Uncheck Search All Collections
b) Select Idaho Supreme Court Records & Briefs
3. Selecting your collection to search:
a) In the right menu: Idaho Supreme Court Record & Briefs is selected
b) In the middle: Click Add
c) In the left menu: Idaho Supreme Court Records & Briefs Collection appears
Your screen should exactly resemble the image below.

4. Searching within CONTENTdm :
a) Below is the default search screen. This is the top portion of the advance search screen.
b) Although not advised, use this if you want to perform a general unfocused search within the collection; you may receive more results than needed and/or desired.
c) Searching across all fields means that you are searching across all the metadata fields designated for searching.
5. Focused Search:
a) Click on Selected fields

b) Select how you want the database to search your terms.
c) The results will vary, and you can add more fields in which to search by clicking the + or – below the search box.
d) Choose the fields you want to search. These are the only fields that are searchable for this particular collection.
e) If you are at a loss as to the terms in the database you may choose Show Terms which will provide a pop up list of terms for a particular field within the database.
Example below shows the Associated Docket Numbers field.

6. Performing a search using the show terms help box:
a) Click on the term you want to search
b) The term is automatically added to the search box.
c) Click the box labeled Search
7. Results:
a) The search takes you into the result grid of the database.
b) Displayed are the Case Names and the Description field.
c) Description provides the type of document.
d) Refine your search provides additional information you may want to use to focus your search.
e) Clicking on the title will take you directly to the document. From there you can search within the whole PDF or choose Document description to look at the metadata.

8. Searching within the PDF:
a) I want to search for all of the pages with the defendant‐appellant’s name “Michael Jordan Wright”. I typed it into the Search this object box at the top right, and clicked the Search button.

b) The next page shows the search results. You will notice that the search terms are highlighted in the PDF document, and the pages in which the search terms occur are highlighted with red brackets.
9. Viewing metadata:
a) Select document description from the upper right drop down menu, and click go.

b) Fields that are not searchable are black and fields that are searchable are gold. If you click on a searchable field then all of the documents that contain that information will appear in the grid.
For example, if I click on Associated Docket Numbers, then all of the items with 34017 will appear in the search grid. There are currently 7 items with the docket number 34017.

c) Also in this view you will notices the Refine your search section. This section displays the options to refine your search. Under Description there are two items that are the Clerk’s Record on Appeal. If you choose Clerk’s Record on Appeal then only those items will appear in the grid.
10. Printing
a) Printing your document
b) Under document description menu you can either print a subset or print the whole document. When you choose print another window or tab will open with the PDF outside of the database.
11. URL’s
a) If you want to bookmark or need a URL for the item you are viewing there is a Reference URL at the top of the screen.

b) The Reference URL pops up in another window and provides a static URL for the item.
