PAID 12% LESS THAN MEN ON AVERAGE
background :Over thousands of employees surveyed and data collected by SarawakJobs.com, 910 of which are Sarawakians who are employed and working in Sarawak.
SALARY DIFFERENCEbetween Male & Female Employees2015-2016 (RM)
The graphic illustrates the comparison of salary between Male and Female employees in Sarawak; in reference to their level of education.
Findings & Analysis :Our results show that women are likely to be paid less than men in Sarawak despite having the same level of education. A huge dierence in gender salary is noted especially in women holding STPM qualication or equivalent earn RM270 lesser per every RM1,000 earned by men. On positive note, the disparity in gender salary decreases when education level ascends itself upwards into tertiary education (such as Diploma, Bachelor's Degree & Postgraduate Degree). What’s interesting is that we found women holding Postgraduate Degree earn almost the same as men with only 2% pay dierence. And contrastingly, the dierence in the overall average pay scale shows women are paid 12% less than men. Although there are some degree of inequality between the salary earned by women and men, and gender salary gap persists in nearly every level of education, it is also important to know that education can impact gender salary and the dierence in gender salary is at the lowest when education level is at the highest and vice versa. The good news is, the gender salary gap is not a denite myth; you do something to change it.

Important notes:
The comparison between Salary and Education is based on employees with up to 2 years of working experience; which provides Job seekers / Fresh Graduates, in respective of their education levels, an indication of how much they might be remunerated during their rst 2 years of employment.
The above graph illustrates the average salary earned by Fresh Graduates in Sarawak, in reference to their level of education with up to 2 years of working experience.
Compare and see the dierence in fresh graduates’ starting salaries depending on the level of education attained:
Start low earn low, start high earn high? Our facts show that STPM holders can earn up to 12% more than SPM holders or equivalent. A substantial increase in starting salary is noted especially for Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree holders, earning 28% or 30% respectively more than STPM holders.
However, there is only 14% or 18% in salary increment for those holding Postgraduate or Master’s Degree respectively. No doubt that fresh graduates holding a higher education makes more money on the average than those with a lower degree, the facts also re-emphasis that higher education results in higher Salary.
Take a step further to analyse this deeper… Does pursuing a Higher Education literally mean the potential of doubling your income or will the dierence in starting salary become smaller with more common or higher degrees?

After a closer look at the above reports, we can conclude that as the students’ level of education increases, their level of salary expectations are much closerto the actual salaries earned by their peers working in the society. From this, we can see that the relationship between expectations in starting salaries against actual starting salaries of fresh graduates in Sarawak are more well-balanced as the level of education rises up. This may also mean that students are more realistic in their demands in salaries when they reach a higher education level.
Final conclusion :

Furthermore, 1 in every 3 diploma students surveyed,33% of them expects no less than RM3,000 for a start.
