    During the last quarter of 2003, Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam was contracted bySmit Engineering - part of the SMIT Group - to review a basic design for adynamically positioned anchor handling tug/supply vessel (AHTS), providing abasis for modular upgrading to diving support, oil recovery and other duties.In the first phase, SMIT intended to order two 70-ton bollard pull vessels and one120-ton bollard pull AHTS.After an international tender, resulting in offers from yards in The Netherlands,Norway, Spain and Singapore, Smit Transport & Heavy Lift B.V. ordered in March

    2004 two 70-ton bp AHTS from the Keppel Singmarine yard in Singapore with anoption for two 120-ton bp AHTS. In July 2004 Smit exercised its option to build thisvessel.

    All vessels are certfied by American Bureau of Shipping for the class notation:A1(e), Offshore Support Vessel, Anchor Handling Towing Vessel, AMS,ACCU, FiFi Class 1, +DPS-2

    The first AHTS - named 'Smit Kamara' - has been contracted by the NederlandseAardolie Maatschappij B.V.'(NAM) for a 5-year charter period.The second 70-ton bollard pull AHTS - named 'Smit Komodo' - shall also be fittedas Diving Support Vessel. For this purpose this vessel shall have two 850 kW bowthrusters and two 550 kW stern thrusters, enhancing dynamic positioningcapabilities. Furthermore the vessel can accommodate 50 persons instead of 42persons.The 'Smit Komodo'' will be deployed on a long -term charter in Egypt and the 120ton bollard pull 'Smit Nicobar', which is due for delivery June 2006 and will start a

    charter in Sakhalin, Russia.On March 31, 2006 SMIT announced that they have reached an agreement for thepurchase of seven newly built work vessels from Hadi H. Al-Hammam Est. ofSaudi Arabia. These vessels of approximately 75 tons bp are a modified version ofthe 'Smit Kamara' and 'Smit Komodo'' The first two vessels of this new series willbe delivered during 2006 and the last one is expected to be delivered in 2008.They will be managed by the SMIT Singapore organisation.

    Vuyk Engineering Rotterdam assisted Smit Engineering to compare the variousshipyards offers in technical and commercial way and made ship motioncalculations to advise for the correct configuration of main propulsion, bow andstern thruster to obtain the DP-2 class notation.
