The business is also involved across the whole development process; from financing, design, construction, maintenance and facilities management. As part of the framework of approved contractors for the development of Wembley Park, Carillion is responsible for developing the Phase 2 design and construction for South West Lands (SWL) in partnership with Quintain, the developer behind the regeneration of Wembley Park. Previously featured in the November edition of the Newsletter, SWL is a residential development south of the stadium, consisting of almost 900 homes. O’Keefe is currently on site undertaking enabling works, with Carillion due to come on site later this year. According to Fraser Wilson, Project Director for SWL, although not currently on site, Carillion is already heavily involved: “At the moment we are in a Pre- Construction Service Agreement (PCSA), which means we are assisting Quintain in forward planning, including design work, logistics and agreeing the scope of work.” As Project Director, Fraser Wilson is the lead on SWL, and is responsible for overseeing a number of elements; everything from design through to the construction itself. At the moment, he is in the process of procuring trade packages and hiring the subcontractors who will work on SWL. Originally from New Zealand, but based in London for the last 17 years, Fraser joined Carillion a year ago. He has a lot of residential development experience, previously working for the Berkeley Group. Fraser says that he joined Carillion not only due to their impressive portfolio such as Battersea and King’s Cross London, but also because he would have the opportunity to work on Wembley Park: “I was brought in specifically to work on Wembley Park, which is fantastic as it’s one of London’s most exciting regeneration schemes. Previously, I’d only ever come to Wembley for football games at the Stadium, and then it was just a flat, dry car park. Quintain are making a big statement and it’s fast establishing itself as the ‘go to’ spot in North West London. The area is looking great. It’s amazing to be able to work on it.” Carillion is committed to creating a positive legacy in each of the communities where its projects are based. Delivered through dedicated Community Needs Plans, it engages with local communities, including Brent, working with schools and charities, whilst helping disadvantaged people, such as the homeless, gain relevant skills and experience for the workplace. As a member of the Construction Skills programme, outlined in last month’s newsletter, Carillion has been assigned a local school to engage with. Working alongside Quintain, they will create bespoke construction work related programmes, with activities for their school, including work experience and hands-on construction games and challenges. Health and Safety We take our health & safety obligations at Wembley Park extremely seriously and were deeply saddened to witness the terrible events at Grenfell Tower. We are building a large scale mixed use development and with that comes a responsibility to ensure the safety of all the workers, visitors and residents at Wembley Park.

All of our residential buildings are new build. None of our residential buildings are refurbishments and each building has a fire safety strategy that has been developed in conjunction with a leading fire specialist, Jeremy Gardner Associates, who we have worked with for over 10 years.

All of our buildings are fully compliant with building regulations and their designs were approved by both the London Borough of Brent Building Control and The London Fire Brigade.

We have used high quality building materials throughout our development at Wembley Park and as the owners of the 85 acre estate we have professional onsite management, including regular building inspections, fire risk assessment by independent professional fire risk assessors and tenant liaison.

What's happening in Wembley

Ark Academy VolunteeringOn Monday 19 June, nine volunteers from Quintain, headed up by Executive Director - Construction, Matt Voyce, volunteered at The Ark Academy Primary School.

The workshop was run by Young Enterprise; a UK charity who works with young people to help harnass their personal and business skills.

Working with volunteers, the children (aged 4-11) completed a number of hands-on tasks designed around the theme of community life.

Women in Construction & Engineering AwardsOn 19 May at the Hilton Bankside London, the Women in Construction and Engineering Awards were held.

These awards are designed to find exemplary women within the industry, and Wembley Park had not one but two of our consultants be shortlisted; Claire Tribe from Wates was shortlisted for Best Woman Contractor and Zhe (Sophie) de Montalembert from Stace was shortlisted for Best Young Woman in Construction.
