You can use the Océ WPD or PS3 printer driver with the Océ TCS, Océ ColorWave orOcé PlotWave printers.However, Océ WPD2 printer driver only supports the Océ PlotWave 350 printers.

The majority of the Océ TDS printers are also compliant with the Océ WPD or PS3printer driver.However, for the Océ TDS400, Océ TDS600 or Océ TDS800 printer: make sure thatyou install a driver version that is compliant with your TDS version. To do so, checkyour printer controller version. Then, see the compatibility matrix to know which driveris optimised with your printer and operating system.‘Check your Océ TDS printer version’ on page 24

Printer discovery with your printer driver

At installation time, the Océ WPD, Océ WPD2 and Océ PS3 printer drivers can auto-matically detect the printer(s) available on your network. This is the 'printer discovery'.A printer which is automatically detected with the printer discovery is called a 'detectableprinter'.

In order to be detected, the printer must:



• be detectable.• be connected to your local sub-network. This sub-network must be the same as the

one of the workstation on which you install the printer driver.• be powered on.• have the 'Ready' status.

Check your Océ TDS printer version

Introduction

Note:This procedure is only necessary for the Océ TDS400, Océ TDS600 and Océ TDS800.

To know which driver is compliant with your TDS printer, you must know your printercontroller version.

How to check your Océ TDS printer controller version

1. On the controller, open the System Control Panel.2. Open the Help.3. Click ‘About’ to find the Océ printer version.

How to check your Océ TDS printer controller version on systems with no screen

1. From your Océ TDS printer User Panel, make sure you are off-line.2. Select the ‘System’ menu.3. In that menu, select ‘Print settings’ to print the dump configuration.4. Press the On-line button to launch the printing.5. On the printout, check the ‘Release number controller’.

Note:This number is usually found on the last page of the printout.

Depending on your network architecture, multiple printing solutions are available foreach supported operating system.

Basically, there are two main configuration types:• the ‘Client / Server configuration’ on page 27• the ‘Peer to peer configuration’ on page 27

Client / Server configuration

In this configuration, the printing resources administration is centralized. The clientworkstation is connected to a print server linked to the print system (controller).Recommended for large scale LANs.

Peer to peer configuration

In this configuration, the client workstation is directly connected to the print system(controller).Recommended for small LANs.

This chapter applies to the Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, WindowsServer 2008, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 environments.

This chapter describes the configuration of printing and scanning in a Windows TCP/IPenvironment:• How to setup the Océ TDS/TCS controller.• How to setup the Océ ColorWave/PlotWave controller.• How to install a dedicated Print Server and a client workstation in order to work in

a Client/Server configuration.• How to configure the client workstation in a Peer to peer configuration.• How to print using FTP protocol.• How to configure Scan to File.

Client/Server configuration

Definition

In this configuration, the printing resources administration is centralised. The clientworkstation is connected to a Print Server linked to the print system (controller).Recommended for large scale LANs.

Explanation of the above scheme:• (1) is the method to apply for the driver installation (see the drivers User Manual).

• (2) SMB ‘Point and Print’ is the Océ recommended connection to the Print Server.Advantages:- No installation CD is necessary.- Important gain of time when upgrading the printer driver in large networks. Theprinter driver needs to be upgraded manually on the print server only, and the work-stations drivers are then automatically upgraded.- The same version of the printer driver is available and used by all workstations users.

• (3) Océ recommended connection to the print system.

It is compatible with the ‘High’ and ‘Medium’ security levels (all OcéTDS/TCS/PW/CW systems, except Océ ColorWave 550/6x0).

• (4) 'SMB local' means a local installation of the printer driver on a workstation, andan SMB connection to the Print Server.This connection type does not have the advantage of (2) SMB ‘Point and Print’.

How to use the functionality• The System administrator configures the network and Wi-Fi infrastructure• The System administrator enters the configuration information in the printer controller

interface (Océ Express WebTools, see ‘Configure the Océ Express WebTools for a mobileconnection’ on page 73) in order to generate and print the 'Quick Response Card'(connection sheet - see ‘Generate the 'Quick Response Card' ’ on page 75). • The user activates the Wi-Fi on the mobile device and connects to the network. Thenthe user opens the Océ Mobile WebTools on the mobile device's web browser (see‘Connect your mobile device to the Océ Mobile WebTools’ on page 76).

• Using the Océ Mobile WebTools, the user can then print a file from the mobile deviceto the Océ PlotWave 350 and save a scanned document onto the mobile device (referto the Océ PlotWave 350 Operating guide for the detailed procedures).



Configure the Océ Express WebTools for a mobile connection

Purpose

Define the connectivity information that the users will need in order to connect to theOcé Mobile WebTools. This information is also used to create the content of the 'QuickResponse Card' (connection sheet).

The 'Quick Response Card' (connection sheet) contains all the information that yourusers need to connect to the printer from a mobile device. You can print it on individualcards or on a poster that you can display next to the printer.

Before you begin

The System admininstrator or Power user enters the connectivity information for a mobileconnection (see ‘Configure the Océ Express WebTools for a mobile connection’ on page 73).

Create the 'Quick Response Card' (connection sheet)

1. Log on as a System administrator2. Open the 'Support' - 'About' tab3. From the 'Downloads' section, click 'Quick Response Card'

The 'Quick Response Card' is automatically generated and opened in a web browserwindow. It contains a Quick Response (QR) code, the URL of the Océ Mobile WebToolson printer, the basic connection instructions and the optional Wi-Fi settings and pass-words.

You can print it on any printer.

Connect your mobile device to the Océ Mobile WebTools

Purpose

From the Océ Mobile WebTools you can:

• Print a document that is available on your mobile device• Save a scanned document to your mobile device

You can connect to the Océ Mobile WebTools by scanning the QR Code (then you needthe application to scan QR Codes on your mobile device) or by entering the printer'sURL for mobile in the mobile web browser. For iOS mobile devices, type the IP addressof the printer in the iCab Mobile browser.

The two following sections describe how to setup an Océ TDS/TCS and ColorWave/Plot-Wave Print Server and an associated workstation, in a Client/Server configuration.

In this configuration, printer data are sent twice on the network:• From the user workstation to the Print Server workstation.• From the Print Server workstation to the Océ TDS/TCS and ColorWave/PlotWave

Introduction to Printer Server configuration

About the print port

Introduction

The print port is used to send data from your Print Server (or workstation) to the printercontroller. It is represented by the printer driver. The printer driver is the tool you con-cretely use to communicate with the printer controller (usually, from an application).

For performance reasons, Océ now recommends to use the Standard TCP/IP print port(with LPR printing protocol, byte count disabled) as an optimal choice. Standard TCP/IPport is available by default on Windows platforms.Use the Océ Connect Assistant to select and configure the best print port for yourprinter. With the Océ Connect Assistant, you do not need to manually create a printport.

Note:If your printing protocol uses the LPR port, the Océ Connect Assistant preserves thischoice.To change this choice, delete the LPR port before you run the Océ Connect Assistant('Installation Wizard' of the printer driver).

Recommendations for the print port configuration

1. The 'Installation Wizard' is configured to select the best print port to use according toyour connectivity needs.Just follow the 'Installation Wizard' instructions and keep the default values: the OcéConnect Assistant makes the optimal choice for you.

2. You may need to define another print port. If so, Océ recommends you to do so throughthe 'Custom installation' - 'Use a specific connectivity' option of the 'Installation Wizard'.

Before you start, make sure the driver you are about to install can be combined with yourprinter and operating system (see ‘Compatibility matrix’ on page 17).

Install a printer on a client workstation (Windows XP/Server 2003)

From AutoCAD applications, you can connect to the Océ printers with the WPD driver.The WPD printer driver is optimised for AutoCAD.The connection procedure is detailed below. It applies to all OS.

Connect to an Océ TDS/TCS/ColorWave/PlotWave printer with the WPD driver

1. In the AutoCAD menu, select ‘FILE - PLOTTER MANAGER’.2. Double-click ‘Add-A-Plotter Wizard’.3. Click ‘Next’.4. Select ‘System Printer’.

More and more computers are equipped with a firewall.Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, Server 2008 and Windows 7 platforms include an in-ternal Windows Firewall. This firewall is activated by default.

You must configure the following Firewall settings on the destination workstation whenyou use the Scan to File option.Those procedures apply to the Océ TDS/TCS/ColorWave/PlotWave printers that supportthe Scan to File option, as well as the Océ TC4 scanner.

Scan to File using SMB

To use the Scan to File via SMB, open the following ports on the destination workstation:

Note:To create a SMB Scan to File destination (in a network without DNS server), make surethat the ‘SMB printing’, or ‘NetBios over TCP/IP’ setting (if available, according toyour Océ system), is enabled on the Settings Editor (or Express WebTools) of your Océsystem controller.

Answer

Use the following method:

1. Disable DHCP and click 'Apply'.2. Click 'OK' when proposed to re-boot the controller and go to the next step.3. Change the DNS server IP address and click 'Apply'.4. Click 'OK' when proposed to re-boot the controller and go to the next step.5. Enable DHCP and click 'Apply'.6. Click 'OK' when proposed to re-boot the controller.

Configure DNS server address on an XPe based Océ TDS/TCS

Print Server: default printing preferences definition for usersof a shared printer

Need

When a printer driver is installed and shared on a Print Server, the administrator can setthe printing preferences so that all clients connected to that printer will retrieve the samedefault values.

Cause

On a Windows XP/Server 2003 print server, if you define the default settings in ‘PrinterPreferences...’, they will be applied to the local computer only.They will not be the default settings for the client.

Change the driver Printing Preferences on a Windows XP/Server 2003 printserver:

1. From Windows 'Start' menu, select 'Settings', 'Printers and Faxes'.2. Right-click the printer for which you want to set the default printing preferences and select

‘Properties’.3. On the ‘Advanced’ tab click the ‘Printing Defaults’ button.4. Define the default settings.5. Validate.

The changes made will be reflected on the connected print clients.

Test the validity of the remote scan destination: Océ Color-Wave 300/PlotWave systems

Introduction

From the version 1.2.1 of the Océ PlotWave 300 and the Océ ColorWave 300 printers,a specific 'Test' feature has been introduced to support the creation of a scan destination.This 'Test' feature allows to check, or to troubleshoot, a remote scan destination (SMBor FTP).

Note:This feature is also available for Océ PlotWave 350 and Océ PlotWave 900 printers.

Before you begin

The 'Scan destination' window must be opened. If not already done:

1. Open a web browser and enter the URL of the printing system (http://<hostname>) toopen the Océ Express WebTools.

2. Go to 'Configuration' - 'Scan destinations'.3. Select a Scan destination.

Test the scan destination

1. Select a Scan destination.



The 'Test' button only appears when the scan destination type is 'Remote via SMB' or'Remote via FTP'.

Question

It is impossible to create a Scan to File destination via SMB on my printer controller.I cannot create the SMB scan destination on Océ Express WebTools.I cannot create the SMB scan destination on Océ Scan Manager.It is impossible to create a destination folder for my scanned files on my workstation.

Answer

Several reasons can explain this situation:

1. It can be the consequence of problems linked to the name resolution (translation betweenhostname and corresponding IP addresses).This happens in the following environments:- network configuration where there is no DNS,- Operating Systems with IPv6 protocol embedded and with Océ systems embeddingIPv6 protocolsIn these cases, try those possible solutions:• Enable SMB printing on systems that support it.

Scan to File to SMB in an IPv6 environment

Question

Why does the scan to an SMB destination fail?The SMB destination is defined with a hostname, that has both an IPv4 address and anIPv6 address in the DNSv4.

This happens with the following print systems:

• Océ TDS450 1.6, Océ TCS500 1.6, Océ TDS700 1.6 and Océ TC4 1.6• Océ PlotWave 300 1.0/1.1.1, Océ PlotWave 350 1.0 and Océ PlotWave 900 1.0• Océ ColorWave 300 1.0

And, when the scan destination is located on one of the following Windows environ-ments:

• Windows Vista• Windows Server 2008• Windows 7

Answer

Use one of the next two workarounds:

1. Disable IPv6 on the print controller.Or,

2. Define the SMB destination with the IP address instead of the hostname.

Question

For Océ TDS300 v1.1.1 and higher, Océ TDS400 v2.1.1 and higher, Océ TDS450v3.0.x, Océ TDS600 v4.1.1 and higher, Océ TDS800 v2.1.1 and higher, Océ TDS860v1.0 and higher, Océ TCS400 v2.2 and higher and Océ TCS500 v1.1 and below, theSMB printing configuration and default value have changed, in order to increase security.The default value of the 'Enable SMB' setting has been changed to 'Disabled' in the Set-tings Editor.

As a side effect, in some network configurations (e.g. Windows workgroup without DNS),it is not possible to create a SMB Scan to File destination when the SMB printing is dis-abled.

Answer

This issue appears from an XPe based Océ TDS/TCS system, when the SMB printing isdisabled.

To create a SMB Scan to File destination, enable the SMB printing in the Settings Editor.

For Océ TCS500 v1.2 and higher, Océ TDS450 v3.1 and higher, and Océ TDS7x0systems, the SMB printing protocol is removed by default.

As a side effect, in some network configurations (e.g. Windows workgroup without DNS),it is not possible to create a SMB Scan to File destination when NetBios over TCP/IP isdisabled.

Answer

This issue appears on an Océ TCS500 v1.2+, Océ TDS450 v3.1+, or Océ TDS7x0 system,when NetBIOS over TCP/IP is disabled.

Issue

It is impossible to create a SMB Scan to File destination on a domain controller runningunder Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008.

Cause

When a Windows Server 2003/Server 2008 is promoted to the domain controller, thedefault value of a registry setting (see below) changes from ‘0’ to ‘1’ (Enabled).

As a result the domain controller’s SMB server accepts only digitally signed SMB packets.This feature is not supported by the Océ SMB client used by the Océ Scan Manager.Consequently, the creation of SMB destinations fails.

Possible solutions:• You can use another workstation, member server or stand alone server for the Scan to

File destination.• You can upgrade your Océ TDS/TCS system to:

- Océ TDS300 v1.1.9- Océ TDS320 v1.0.9- Océ TDS400 v2.1.9- Océ TDS600 v4.1.9- Océ TDS800 v2.1.9- Océ TDS860 v1.0.9- Océ TCS400 v2.2.9

• A network administrator can modify the domain controller and disable ‘Digitally signcommunications’, as explained in the following procedure:

This situation happens after an upgrade of the printer controller.

Check the 'Destination properties' of the SMB destination on the Scan Manager.Make sure the 'User name' you defined for this scan destination has the following syntax:- Local user name: 'IP address\username' or 'hostname\username';- Domain user name: 'domain\username'.

Question

A message 'Incorrect value !' appears when I create a scan destination on an Océ PlotWaveor Océ colorWave system.I type and confirm my password but an 'Incorrect value !' message still appears.My password confirmation is correct but I cannot create the scan destination.

Answer

This occurs on Océ PlotWave 300 and Océ ColorWave 300 systems (for printer versionsbefore 1.2.1). When you create a scan destination, you must enter and confirm a password('New' and 'Retype' fields of the scan destination properties).If the password contains other characters than the characters listed below, the problemwill occur.The password can only be composed of those valid characters:- any number: [0-9]- any letter, lower or upper case: [a-z] [A-Z]- the following special characters: _, -, ~, !, @, #, $, %, ^, *, (, ), +, =, ,,., :, ;, [, ], {, }, ?,/, \.

Note:From the version 1.2.1 of the Océ PlotWave 300 and Océ ColorWave 300 printers, allcharacters are allowed.

It is possible to create a scan destination via FTP. However it is not possible to deliver ascan on the remote destination.

There are several possible answers:

1. Check that the scan destination is writable.2. Check if the remote path starts with a “/” remove it. If yes, remove it.

For an XPe-based Océ TDS/TCS system, it is possible to create a FTP Scan destinationon the 'jobs' folder of another Océ TDS/TCS. However, the scanned file is not delivered.Additionally, a 'Delivery error' message pops up.

It is caused by a limitation of the FTP client implemented in the XPe-based Océ TDS/TCSsystem.

Answer

Upgrade your Océ TDS/TCS system to Océ TDS300 R1.0.3, Océ TDS400 R2.0.3,Océ TDS600 R4.0.3, Océ TDS800 R2.0.3, Océ TDS860 R1.0.1, Océ TCS400 R2.2.2and later to remove the limitation.

This may occur on some Océ TDS/TCS versions with Océ PLC controller based on XPSP1 version: Océ TDS300 v1.1.2, Océ TDS400 v2.1.2, Océ TDS600 v4.1.2, OcéTDS800 v2.1.2, Océ TDS860 v1.0, Océ TCS400 v2.2 systems.Use one of the following workarounds.

Possible workarounds:

1. Make sure that:The 'Use Passive FTP' setting is UNCHECKED (in 'Internet options' / 'Advanced')for Internet Explorer.

• Internet Explorer is not blocked by your PC workstation firewall (for the WindowsFirewall, Internet Explorer should be added to the exception list for this particularFTP requirement).

2. Use another FTP client software.Do not select the FTP 'Passive mode', and add this FTP client in the firewall exceptionslist.

Cause

In case of a new installation of Océ Remote Logic 12.11, the file ‘Adt.cfg’ has ‘Read-only’attribute. But this file contains the IP addresses and/or hostnames of the Océ TDS/TCSprinters.Every time the Océ Remote Logic 12.11 is restarted, the file ‘Adt.cfg’ restores the defaultcontent.This problem is solved in Océ Remote Logic 12.12.

To allow a Novell Client to access the Océ TDS/TCS Print Resource, you have to setupthe Novell File Server in order to establish the connection between this Novell FileServer and the Océ ‘Print Server’ you previously setup on the Océ TDS/TCS PrinterController.

This section is aimed at the local network administrator and/or end user.It describes how to setup the client workstations, by using a Client/Server connection,in order to use the Océ TDS/TCS Printer resource on a LAN via the IPX/SPX protocol.

Attention:Workstations that run under Windows Vista operating system do not support the NovellQueue Based Printing anymore.Instead, you can use iPrint Novell (see ‘Introduction to iPrint Setup’ on page 313).

Note:The Peer to peer connection is not possible when using the IPX/SPX protocol.

Note:The Client/Server connection allows a client workstation to use the Océ TDS/TCSprinter, defined on the Novell File Server.


Define Client Workstation Setup

Client Workstation Setup (WPD driver)

Introduction

This section is a system administrator guideline to use the Océ TDS/TCS Print Serviceson a Windows client workstation with the Windows Printer Driver (WPD), interconnectedvia the Novell IPX/SPX protocol.

The client workstations have access to the Océ TDS/TCS Print Services via PrinterQueues defined on this dedicated Novell File Server.

There are two methods to install Windows Printer Driver (WPD):• Setup.exe: recommended method due to the complete automatic ‘uninstall’ procedure.• Add Printer method: the full ‘uninstall’ procedure may have manual actions (refer to

Océ Windows Printer Driver User Manual for further details on uninstallation).However this method can be chosen in case of troubles with Novell Client captureproblem (see ‘Redirect the local port to the appropriate Novell Queue.’ on page 272).

Before you begin

In all cases, you must first make sure you have the correct printer driver installation files.See: ‘1. Get the installation files’ on page 270

With the Add-a-printer method, you must also save the installation files on your worksta-tion. Then, you can install the printer driver.See: ‘2. Save the installation files’ on page 271





Note:You can also find the installation files on the Driver Pack CD provided with your Océprinter.



2. Save the installation files

1. Double-click on the executable file (<driver>.exe) to launch the 'Installation Wizard'.Choose the setup language.

2. Click'Unpack files'.Browse to the directory of your workstation where you want to save the installation files.

3. Click 'OK' to save the files to your workstation.

Install WPD with the setup.exe method

1. Launch the 'Installation Wizard' (double-click on the executable file: <driver>.exe).2. Select your language and click 'Install'.3. Click 'I agree' to accept the licence agreement.4. Select 'There is no printer connected yet' and click 'Next'.5. Select your printer model and click 'Next'.6. Select 'Custom installation' and click 'Next'.7. Select 'Use a specific connectivity' and choose an unused port from the drop down list

(COM4 in the illustration).



Note: In the next procedure, the port (LPT3 in our next example) will be redirected to theappropriate Novell queue.

Click 'Next'.8. Enter the name for your printer.

Make sure the ‘No’ is selected so you do not share the printer driver.9. Click 'Install'.

Files are copied on the hard disk.When done, check the printer options and default values.Restart your workstation if requested, else click 'Close' to exit the 'Installation Wizard'.

Redirect the local port to the appropriate Novell Queue.

Note:It is preferable to use the Novell capture procedure rather than the ‘net use’ command:

1. Right-click on the ‘N’ red logo on the right Task bar to launch the Novell capture tool:

Novell Distributed Print Services (NDPS)

Introduction

Note:The Novell Distributed Print Services (NDPS) is the default and preferred print systemin NetWare 5 and available in NetWare 6.

Note:Windows Vista/Server 2008/ 7 do not support NDPS.

A Printer Agent (representing all the printer characteristics) is defined on Novell Server.A client sends jobs to the printer on the Novell Server.The Novell Server sends the job(s) to the Océ TDS/TCS and ColorWave/PlotWave printsystem through a Novell Gateway by using LPR protocol.

NDPS Manager manages the Printer Agent.The NDPS Broker Resource Management Service (RMS) component allows resources(printer drivers, printer definition files, banners, and fonts) to be installed in a centrallocation and then downloaded to clients, printers, or any other entity on the networkthat needs them.

Configuration

You need to configure the client workstation, the Océ TDS/TCS and ColorWave/Plot-Wave controller and the Novell Server.

Introduction

In NDPS environment, the Novell Server sends jobs to the Océ TDS/TCS and Color-Wave/PlotWave controller by means of the LPR protocol, so this protocol must be enabledon Controller.

Enable the LPR protocol for all Océ TDS/TCS systems (except Océ TCS300)

Note:You MUST be logged on as a system administrator.

First, make sure the NDPS component is installed on the Novell Server. If not, install it(refer to your Novell NetWare installation manual).



NDPS Manager

Introduction

The NDPS Manager is used to create and manage server-based Printer Agents (similarto the way PSERVER is used on servers to manage printing resources in legacy printing).You must create an NDPS Manager on each Novell Server you will be controlling NDPSprinters from.

Note: You MUST be logged on as Novell system administrator on any Windows workstationrunning Novell Client 32 over any Microsoft Windows operating system.

Launch the Administrator task

1. Log on as system administrator, using the proper Context, Tree and Server.2. Launch the Novell Administration Task (Nwadmn32.exe) located in.

\\‘Novell_Server’\SYS\public\WIN32 (also generally mapped on Z:\Win32.)

In the following steps, objects are created using ‘Novell Administration’ console. The Printer Agent lies at the heart of NDPS, combining the functions previously per-formed by a printer, print queue, print server, and spooler into one intelligent and sim-plified entity.

Introduction

The Broker provides three network support services not previously available in NetWare:• Service Registry Service (SRS),• Event Notification Service (ENS),• Resource Management Service (RMS): RMS is the one we use below.

The RMS service allows resources (printer drivers, …) to be installed in a central location.From this central location, they can then be downloaded to clients, printers, or any otherentity on the network that needs those resources.

When NDPS is first installed in an NDS tree, a Broker object is created automatically inthe container where the Server object resides.A broker should then exist and run on your Novell Server. If not, refer to ‘Create a NDPSbroker object’ on page 300.

This section describes how to setup the Novell Server NDPS Broker Resource ManagerService for automatic driver upload, taking the example of the Windows Printer Driver(WPD). Launch the Administrator Task

5. Click ‘Add resources’, and select the Operating System you want to add drivers resourcesfor.

6. Select the Windows Platform and click ‘Add’.Then, browse to select the Printer driver, and click ‘OK’.



The following window appears.

7. Press ‘OK’ to install the resources.You can see the drivers installed on Novell Server.

Note:You can use the same procedure for the PS3 driver.

Assign to the Printer Agent

Assign to the Printer Agent one resource (driver) among those available for automaticdownload when configuring the client

Printer Object has, for your operating system, a default driver ready to be downloaded.

Note: Whatever the supported drivers, you can repeat the operation for any supported oper-ating system.




Introduction

This section is aimed at the Local Network Administrator and/or End User.It describes how to setup the client workstation in order to use the Océ TDS/TCS andColorWave/PlotWave Printer resource available on the Novell Server through the NDPSmethod.

Before you begin

If you want to install the Océ WPD printer driver, you must first:

• Get the installation files of the printer driver• Save the files to your workstation. Then, you can setup the workstation with the Océ

WPD printer driver.

Attention:On Client workstations that run under Windows Vista operating system, the NDPSqueues are no more visible.Instead, you can use iPrint Novell (see ‘Introduction to iPrint Setup’ on page 313).

Note:The driver must be correctly downloaded on the Server Novell (see ‘NDPS Broker RMSsetup’ on page 303).If not, you can nevertheless install the driver locally, but you lose interest in NDPSprinting facilities.







2. Save the installation files

1. Double-click on the executable file (<driver>.exe) to launch the 'Installation Wizard'.Choose the setup language.

2. Click'Unpack files'.Browse to the directory of your workstation where you want to save the installation files.

3. Click 'OK' to save the files to your workstation.

Set up the workstation under Windows XP/Server 2003 with WPD driver

1. From the Windows ‘Start - Settings - Printers’ menu, double-click ‘Add Printer’.2. In the ‘Add Printer Wizard’ window, click ‘Next’ and choose ‘Network Printer’.3. Click ‘Next’.

4. Click ‘Next’ to browse and search your NDPS PRINTER.



5. Select your NDPS PRINTER so that it appears in the ‘Printer’ field, like in the followingfigure.

6. Click ‘Next’.The driver resources are automatically downloaded from Novell Server to the local clientworkstation (operating system is automatically recognised).Then, the ‘Default Printer’ window appears.

7. If the resource is not available on Novell Server, a window prompts you to install thedriver.

In this case, to install the driver, follow those actions:

Introduction

A Printer Agent (representing all the Printer characteristics) is defined on Novell Server.A client sends jobs to the Novell Server by means of Internet Printing Protocol (IPP).Then, the Novell Server sends the job(s) to the Océ wide-format printer through a NovellGateway by using LPR protocol.

NDPS Manager manages the Printer Agent.The NDPS Broker Resource Management Service (RMS) component allows resources(printer drivers, printer definition files, banners, and fonts) to be installed in a centrallocation and then downloaded to clients, printers, or any other entity on the networkthat needs them.

iPrint provides easy Web access to customer for selecting and installing required printerdriver.

Novell took the IPP standard and their own NDPS (Novell Distributed Print Services)and combined the two to produce iPrint.As iPrint is based on the Novell Distributed Print Services (NDPS) architecture, in orderto use iPrint, you must have NDPS installed and configured on Novell Server (pleaserefer to your Network Administrator).

iPrint is available on Novell 6.x and can be installed on Novell 5.1 with Support Pack 2.

Introduction

Although NDPS setup is described in previous section (NDPS setup), we describe nowanother quick way to setup NDPS by using a new Novell 6.x feature: ‘Configuring NDPSusing a Web browser on a client workstation’ (no Novell client required).

However the Web services should be configured on the Novell Server (see your NovellAdministrator).

NDPS setup steps:

To setup the NDPS on the Novell Server, follow those 3 steps:

1. ‘Create a NDPS Broker’ on page 318 and configure it.2. ‘Create/Start a NDPS Print Manager’ on page 320.3. ‘Create a NDPS Printer Object:’ on page 322.

Create a NDPS Broker

1. With your preferred Web browser, authenticate to the eDirectory iManager.Ask your Novell Administrator for accessing to the NetWare Web Manager URL, whichis https://snsnw6:2200 in our example.

2. In the 'iPrint Management/ Create Broker' menu, enter:• a name,• a container where to put the broker,



• and a RMS volume.

3. Activate the Broker. You do so in the 'iPrint Management/ Manage Broker' menu: selectthe broker you just created and click on ‘Startup’.Check if the operation is successful.

4. As the NDPS broker is the repository for the drivers, you need to configure it and addthe different relevant drivers for the different OS.First check that iPrint Client is installed (if not, install it).

5. In the ‘iPrint Management/ Manage Broker/ Resource Management Service Tab/ Addfrom file’ menu, select the driver.Click ‘OK’.



Repeat for any drivers you want to add.6. Click ‘Apply’ or ‘OK’ in the Resource Management Service.

Create a NDPS Printer Object:

2. In the ‘iPrint / Create Printer’ menu, enter:• a name,• a container where to put the printer,• the manager name you previously created,• and a Gateway type ('Novell Gateway').



Then, click on 'Next'.



3. Enter the IP address (preferred than hostname which requires DNS resolution on NovellServer) and the printer name.

Note:DO NOT include character ‘.’ in Printer name to avoid troubles.

4. You can then select the driver for each operating system.



You can also do it later with the ‘Manage Printer’ menu, after having added new driversif required, with 'iPrint Management/ Manage Broker/ Resource Management Service'.

5. You can now check on Novell Server (with NDPS Manager console) whether the Printeris 'Idle'.

Note: If status is 'Needs attention' instead of 'Idle', check whether the controller is poweredon and connected to the network.

Note: You MUST enable iPrint support on your NDPS printer.

2. In the ‘iPrint / Manage Printer’ menu, select the relevant Printer.Go to 'Client Support' tab.

iPrint


Install the printer

1. On your client workstation, open a browser.Access to the following URL: https://[Novell Server Name]/ipps (in our example, theURL is https://snsnw6/ipps).

Note:If authentication is needed, please ask your NetWare Administrator.

2. The first time, you are prompted to install the iPrint Client software.

Click 'OK'.iPrint installation starts (choose ‘Open’ when file download window for nipp.exe appears).At the end of iPrint installation, you must reboot the client PC.

3. Once iPrint installation is done, open a browser again.Access to the following URL: https://[Novell Server Name]/ipps (in our example:https://snsnw6/ipps).

Note:You MUST have administrator privileges to install the iPrint Client software. If not, askyour local administrator.

4. You view the Printer installed during the Server Setup.Click ‘Install’ to install the driver.



Note:If authentication is needed, ask your NetWare Administrator.

5. After confirming the Printer installation, the driver is automatically downloaded fromthe Novell Server to the client workstation (according to the client workstation operatingsystem).To check that the Printer has been installed, open the Printers window in Windows op-erating system.

You can now use this printer to print from any application.

Print a Test Page

1. After installation, you can print a Test Page.To do so, open your Browser again and point it to the following URL: https://[NovellServer Name]/ipps (in our example: https://snsnw6/ipps).



2. Select the Printer TDS400_1_4_3, then click on ‘Print Test Page’.

iPrint Map Designer Tool

1. Using the iPrint Map Designer tool, you can quickly create a map showing the printerslocation.This map is published on a Web. Users can use it to install the printers that are closestto their location.Here is an example of such a HTML page.

Note:Refer to Novell documentation for further information.

2. Click on one Printer to either:• install the Printer driver



• or consult the Printer status (Jobs, Test page, …), if the printer driver has already beeninstalled.



Troubleshooting

Queue Based Printing Troubleshooting

Introduction

This section describes a list of troubleshooting items you can find during Queue BasedPrinting setup. It is aimed at the Local Network Administrator and/or End User.

I cannot install any driver on a client workstation under Windows Vista OS, evenwith this manual’s instructions

Note:The same situation occurs with Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.

Server 2003 is the last Windows version that supports Novell Queue Based Printing.

On Windows Vista operating system, it is not possible to view the queues from NovellQueue Based Printing. Indeed, Windows Vista OS does not support the Novell QueueBased Printing anymore.Instead, you can use an alternative method, like iPrint (see ‘Introduction to iPrint Setup’on page 313).

No printing occurs

No printing occurs once all settings (Océ TDS/TCS + Novell Server + Client workstation)have been done.Then, check the Print Server embedded in Océ TDS/TCS is correctly connected to theNovell Server by checking on the Novell Server itself.

Normally, there is an active connection on print server (PSTDS) which must appear inthe NetWare Console Monitor / Connection available option with the status: NORMAL.

ThenIf

Reboot the Océ TDS/TCS.The Print Server is not present in Net-Ware Console connection status.

Delete the Print Server connection onNovell Server.Then, reboot the Océ TDS/TCS.

The Print Server is present in NetWareConsole connection status,but the status is AUTHENTICATED.

Printing occurs after a while

Normally, the controller polls for job every XX seconds.XX is set in Océ TDS/TCS controller (Settings Editor) and the default value is 30 seconds.So printing may occur by default 30 seconds after having submitted the job.

Print Server Name problem

It is not recommended to mix lower case and upper case characters when naming Printserver, printer Queue and Printer.

More generally, check you follow standard object naming conventions.

• Not all print server names will be valid Service Advertisement Protocol (SAP) names(IPX protocol).For example, SAP names may not exceed 47 characters, they cannot contain spaces,and they must be in all-caps. In addition, many double-byte characters used on certaincode pages are not valid SAP characters.



Novell Capture not persistent with port LPTx

You want to use Novell capture to redirect 'LPTx:' port to Novell Queue. But, even afteryou rebooted Windows, the capture is not active.

Make sure the check box ‘Check to always capture this port when you start Windows’ ischecked.Else, to avoid this problem, put a ‘capture’ command line in the Novell login scripts (askyour Novell Administrator).

My job name is LPT3 in Océ TDS/TCS Queue Manager

The cause is that the driver port is LPT3, and LPT3 has been redirected to Novell Queue(capture).To avoid this problem, please do not use the capture but other alternatives (e.g: pointand print) to install a driver in the relevant section.

I cannot see ‘PSERVER’ on Novell Server Monitor connection section

Check you have not exceeded the maximum number of authorized licenses.

Note:Use NLS for that purpose (ask your Novell Administrator).

NDS CONTEXT name problem

Among the Océ TDS/TCS controller settings (Novell section), you can either use thetypeful or typeless convention when entering the NDS context name:• NDS context: ‘SNS.OCE’(typeless notation) OR• NDS context: ‘OU=SNS.O=OCE’(typeful notation)

In the case of Country addition, it is highly recommended to use the typeful convention:NDS context: ‘OU=SNS.O=OCE.C=FR’

Note:Do not use NDS context ‘SNS.OCE.FR’, as it is a typeless notation.

‘Windows cannot connect to the printer’ when adding a printer driver underWindows XP

NDPS Troubleshooting

Introduction

This section describes a list of troubleshooting items that can occur during NDPS setup.It is aimed at the Local Network Administrator and/or End User.

I cannot install any driver on a client workstation under Windows Vista OS, evenwith this manual’s instructions

Note:The same situation occurs with Windows Server 2008.

Server 2003 is the last Windows version that supports NDPS.

On client workstations running under Windows Vista operating system, it is not possibleto view the NDPS printers.Instead, you can use an alternative method, like iPrint (see ‘Introduction to iPrint Setup’on page 313).

Creating the Printer Agent fails

Creating the Printer Agent fails because of the following error:

Printing in NDPS is very slow with Novell gateway ‘LPR’ printing

There is a known problem on Novell lpr client slow rate (~25 KB/s).

Note:Ref. Novell 10057434: Printing to LPR-based printer using Novell Printer Gateway inLPR mode results in slow delivery of print data and slow print job processing times.

Consult your Novell administrator for more information. There is a Novell patch whichsolves this issue.

NDPS broker setup: add resource problem: the browse button does not work

This problem was noticed on Windows 2000 operating system when browsing whileadding a resource.

Note: This problem may also occur on other operating systems.



To solve this problem, you need to launch nwadmn32.exe with the '/DisableTLSMGRM'option. To do so, use a command line.For instance:'Z:\win32\nwadmn32.exe/DisableTLSMGR'

You cannot see the NDPS printer while browsing with Network Neighbourhood.

This is a known issue only for Windows Windows XP platforms which has an impactwhen trying to create a printer.

You can use the following workaround:

• 1. Create a Queue Object on Novell Server.• 2. Link it to a NDPS printer so that Windows Windows XP can browse Queue objects.• 3. Then, create a printer on Queue Object destination.

Note:This method works fine on pure IP network while problems may occur whenever IPXand IP protocols are mixed.

The Novell client cannot upload WPD driver on NDPS broker

Some Novell client versions are not able to upload drivers to the NDPS broker. This maybe due to the driver files organization.

Several workarounds are possible:

iPrint Troubleshooting

Error 1801 or Unexpected error when defining iPrint settings on client workstation

For proper operation with IPP printing, download the latest IPP client from the Novellweb site.

Error 404 when attempting to install an iPrint printer on client workstation

There is a port conflict on port 443 between iPrint and the Web Based products.

Failure when configuring iPrint with Web services on client workstation

If you encounter problems when trying to configure iPrint/NDPS with iManager, installthe latest Novell Support pack.If the problem persists, try to configure iPrint with NetWare Administration console onyour client workstation (Novell Client required).

Avoid special characters when creating a printer name

When you create a printer using the Web Services (iPrint Management/ Create Printer),do not use special characters (like ‘.’).

Impossible to print with WPD driver installed via iPrint (error message ‘Cannotstart print job’)

This may occur with some previous versions of WPD driver (WPD 1.8.2 or WPD 1.9).Check that the latest version of WPD is installed.

WPD driver installation via iPrint hangs up on client workstation

With Novell NDPS/iPrint, you can install a driver on a client workstation by browsing(with Internet Explorer) the drivers installed on a dedicated Novell Server.In the list of printers available on the Novell Server, click on the printer to install. Auto-matically, an iPrint client is installed on the client workstation, and the driver installationis launched.

If you encounter a hangup during the printer installation (iPrint client is looping forever),apply the following workaround:



• First, retrieve the printer path on page 341.• Then, install the printer using the Add Printer Wizard on page 341.

Introduction

You can use FTP to transfer job prints from Mac OS X only.

Print via FTP on Mac OS X

1. From the Finder, open ‘Applications - Utilities - Terminal’ to access the UNIX terminalwindow.

2. Enter the 'ftp' command.You get the 'ftp>' prompt.

3. Enter the 'open' command followed by either:• the registered name of the remote host ('open hostname').• the IP address (e.g. 'open 134.188.21.155').

4. Press ‘Enter’ to connect to the remote FTP server.The connection with the FTP server is now established and a prompt appears asking fora user name.

Note:Instead of performing steps 2 and 3 you may also enter 'ftp hostname' in the FTP client.

5. Enter a user name (e.g. 'anonymous'), and press ‘Enter’ when prompted for the password.A connection is now set up for the user 'anonymous'.

6. Enter 'binary' to set the transmission mode to binary.7. Use the command 'cd jobs' to open the jobs directory.8. Go to the local directory in which the data you want to print are stored (for example a

MISC folder) by using the following command:' lcd [here you drag and drop the icon of your MISC folder]'

9. Send the data file (for example: test.pdf) via either:• the 'put' command and the file name (e.g. 'put test.pdf').• the 'put' command and you drag and drop the icon of your 'test.pdf' file (e.g. 'put

[icon of your 'test.pdf' file]').

Note:The data is now sent to the input spool directory of the controller, processed and printed.

Scan to File to a Mac OS X computer(using FTP)

Introduction

Note:The Scan to File does not apply to the Océ ColorWave 600 printer.

You can scan a file and send it to a Mac OS X workstation.

First of all, activate the FTP access to enable the FTP server on the Macintosh computer.Then, configure the FTP destination either:- in the Scan Manager of the Océ TDS/TCS controller- or in the Océ Express WebTools of your Océ ColorWave/PlotWave print system.

Attention:To use the Macintosh computer as a FTP server, make sure that the ‘FTP Access’ is acti-vated on the 'System Preferences - Sharing' window.

1. Select ‘File Sharing’, then click ‘Options’.

2. Select ‘Share files and folders using FTP’.

While FTP access is allowed, you can access the Macintosh files and folders using a webbrowser or a FTP client software.

Note:When you fill in the Destination properties, if you notice a '/' character at the beginningof the (remote) path, remove it. Otherwise, you will be prevented to transfer files to theMacintosh computer.

1. Select ‘Destinations’ in the tree view of the Scan Manager.2. Click on the 'New' button of the toolbar.

3. The 'Destination properties' dialogue box appears.4. In the 'Name' text box enter a relevant name for the destination.

This name also appears on the scanner panel.5. From the 'Type' drop-down list box, select destination type 'FTP'.6. In the 'System' text box, enter the IP address of the Macintosh computer (FTP server).7. In the 'User name' text box, enter the user account name authorized on the Macintosh

computer.8. In the 'Password' text box, enter the password of the user account authorized on the

Macintosh computer.



9. Browse to find the destination folder.

10. Click 'OK'.The new created destination is now available on the scanner panel.You can select it to send the scanned file to the folder defined on the Macintosh worksta-tion.

Reboot the controller

Introduction

You modify ‘Connectivity’ parameters. Each time you click ‘Apply’ in the ‘Océ SettingsEditor’, a warning message appears. It informs you that you must reboot the controllerto activate the changes.

Click ‘OK’ and continue to modify the settings, or reboot the controller once all setupis done.

Reboot the Controller:

1. Switch to the ‘Océ System Control Panel’.2. Select ‘System’ within the ‘Menu’ bar.3. Click 'Restart' (or ‘Shutdown’ if you do not need to restart immediately).

4. A confirmation window is displayed.Click ‘Yes’ to reboot the Controller.
