In the course of our lives there are moments that cannot be erasedby the passage of time… Perhaps graduation day is one of those il-lustrious moments that accompanies us, and becomes a launchpad for betterment of all that we do in our lives…I am happy to share this happiness on a day where you crown yourachievements of years of hard work and industrious efforts to fi-nally reach this moment.I am Mohammad Sharaf… the first Emirati graduate of AlMawakeb School in the class of 1981… There were 7 of us backthen in a villa compound in Al Garhoud… A small family of 162students… Always in trouble, always happy… Always learning…There are now over 900 Emirati graduates who walked in the samepath of over 6000 graduates of our schools… My children Khaledand Hamad graduated in 2004 and 2006 respectively…Your Highness… Ladies and gentlemen…I shall take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to thestaff and administration of Al Mawakeb School for their effortsover the years…We live in our young country. Before I commence my speech I’d first like to thank my family,specially my dear father; I love you dad, and my lovely Teta whotravelled the distance to watch me standing in front of you today.I’d also like to thank my friends and my academic educators.Without any of you, I wouldn’t be here today. It was only fouryears ago that I landed here from my hometown in war-torn Syria.In Dubai, I felt glimmers of hope. I found ISAS, a haven thatopened its arms wide for me, making me part of its big loving fam-ily. It became my new home. In school, I felt capable of achievinganything and everything in a world that stretches far beyond warand has so much good to offer. ISAS made me believe in MEagain. After four long years, I can assure you that ISAS wasn’tmerely a school that I went to take classes; it was a lifetime of valu-able lessons and memories.As I was writing my speech at home, I could see my mother look-ing down on me, smiling and delighted at the young man I’ve be-come. Nine years back, I lost my mother, but I promised her thatI’d make her proud… that I’d make a change. I promised to standup even when it’s more comfortable to sit down. I promised to
put HEART into everything Ido no matter how exhausting itgets. It’s been a long journey…and now, I can now finally putthat gown on and venture forthto new beginnings. Ultimately, with all the lessons Ihave learned, I stand in front ofyou today with the most valu-able lesson of all. ISAS has mademe believe that I could not be daunted by anything, not even war.I want to be the guy who rose above it all, went out into the realworld, and became someone who did something great… some-thing that matters. Today, we start a new chapter of our story, astory that is yet to unfold. Richard Halliburton once said, “Justabout a month from now, I'm set adrift, with a diploma for a sailand lots of nerve for oars.” Here I am, having completed the firstpart of my journey, I look forward to many more.

Au nom de notre école, permettez-moi de vous souhaiter la bien-venue à l’occasion de cette soirée de la remise des diplômes. C’est un honneur pour moi, de parler au nom de tous mes ca-mardes et de saisir cette opportunité pour faire nos adieux à notrechère école qui nous a tant donné et qui nous a pris par la main,depuis la maternelle jusqu’à ce jour. Nous sommes tous arrivés, timides, craintifs, ne pouvant paslâcher la main de nos parents, mais nous voilà aujourd’hui, con-fiants, rassurés et prêts à voler de nos propres ailes grâce notam-ment, à nos professeurs qui nous ont transmis le savoir et lesconnaissances. Mais grâce aussi, à nos chers parents qui ont toutsacrifié pour nous, durant toutes ces années d’études et de travaillaborieux.
