For the past decade, lighting designers have hailed LED technology
as the solution for all lighting requirements. Development has
however failed to keep pace with the expectations of the
marketplace. LED solutions have been prohibitively expensive,
inefficient and offered poor lighting quality, resulting in an extremely
restricted range of applications. Recent developments in this fast
moving technology have for the first time enabled truly comparable
lighting solutions to be created that offer all of the low energy and
low maintenance benefits that LED’s have long promised, together
with lighting quality and output that matches or exceeds traditional
light sources.

making economic senseLED’s have for some time offered higher luminaire lumens per watt than
comparable fluorescent solutions, but the capital outlay was such that
these solutions did not make financial sense. Only 2 years ago the cost per
kilolumen of light output was 4 times that of traditional light sources, but
has been reduced to a point that now makes LED’s a viable solution
financially. As development continues, this cost will continue to reduce at a
dramatic rate.

An LED based luminaire will use around half of the energy of its
traditional counterpart, and this efficiency will only ever increase. LED’s
must form a major part of any lighting scheme and will play an
important role in meeting today’s strict energy performance directives
brought in to enable the UK to meet it’s Kyoto Protocol commitments.
LED’s offer other environmental benefits over fluorescent equivalents,
no Mercury is contained in LED lamps making recycling much simpler,
and with a much longer installed life they generate the least amount of
waste materials over the life of the luminaire.
With environmental responsibility at theforefront of everybody’s mind, LEDtechnology must be considered for everypossible application.

Illustrated opposite is a typical retail application lit using
Concert LED downlighters. This area would usually be lit using
a combination of Compact Fluorescent downlighters, CDM
accent spotlights and Tungsten Halogen accent downlighters.
In this example, this would consume nearly 600W of electricity.
By replacing these with the equivalent Concert luminaires, the
energy consumption is reduced to 350W.
Energy savings are not the only advantage. The LED solution is
virtually maintenance free. The traditional solution would
require a lamp replacement program to be implemented.
From a lighting quality point of view the Concert range brings
warm colour temperature, excellent modelling characteristics
and enhanced colour rendering to create a more comfortable
environment.

Application AreasConcert L is an ambient lighting solution designed to
replace high output compact fluorescent downlighters.
It is suitable for a wide range of applications such as
corridors or open plan areas and can also be utilised
for perimeter definition or localised features within
larger lighting schemes.

Remote Phosphor Light EngineConcert L employs a remote phosphor light engine that couples
high intensity blue LED’s with a colour correcting phosphor disc.
This combination allows for generation of 2000 lumens with precise
control of brightness and a colour rendering index of greater than
80. Colour consistency is assured with only a 4 Macadam ellipse
tolerance throughout the life of the luminaire. Concert L is available
in two colour temperatures for complete design flexibility.

Visual ComfortLED’s are an extremely bright point light source, with surface brightness
approaching 300,000Cd/m2. Glare is controlled by the use of a satin finish
reflector. A range of attachments is available to further increase glare control
and provides intermediate brightness zones between ceiling and luminaire,
as well as adding visual interest.
Thermal ManagementLED’s generate extremely high heat levels over a small
surface area. Effective heat dissipation is essential to the
efficient running and longevity of the LED light engine.
Concert L uses the mass of its integrated aluminium
body and bezel as a heat sink, allowing a 2000 lumen
package to operate in a shallow luminaire profile.
Remote DriverConcert L has a remote driver, minimising damaging heat
transfer from the luminaire. It has integrated terminal
covers for simple and safe connection and is available in
fixed output or DALI dimming variants.
OpticsBoth wide and narrow beam angles are available
for precise lighting control. The optional
architectural attachments can be utilised on the
wide beam model to create a subtle aesthetic
enhancement to the standard luminaire.

Application AreasConcert ME is an accent lighting solution designed to
replace low wattage CDM display lighting solutions, as well
as large TH or small CFL solutions for area lighting. It is
suitable for a wide range of applications in both retail and
commercial environments, particularly where areas of visual
interest are being created.

Remote Phosphor Light EngineConcert ME employs the same remote phosphor technology as used
in the Concert L range, but in a more compact configuration. This
allows for generation of 1000 lumens in a smaller diameter for more
defined lighting beams. Colour consistency is unparalleled with only a
3 Macadam ellipse tolerance throughout the life of the luminaire and a
colour rendering index greater than 80. Concert ME is available in two
colour temperatures for complete design flexibility.
Visual ComfortThe use of a small diameter LED light engine allows for a higher
mounting point within the reflector. This results in a high
shielding angle giving greater visual comfort. The specular
reflector gives an extremely defined beam angle which
combines the characteristics of a traditional spotlight optic with
high levels of visual comfort.
Thermal ManagementLED’s generate extremely high heat levels over a small surface
area. Effective heat dissipation is essential to the efficient running
and longevity of the LED light engine. Concert ME employs a
small diameter ultra thin multi-fin radiator for maximum thermal
diffusion. This enables Concert ME to operate in close proximity
to other units when used in multiple configurations without
compromising lighting efficiency..
Remote DriverConcert ME has a remote driver, minimising damaging heat transfer from
the luminaire. It has integrated terminal covers for simple and safe
connection and is available in fixed output with analogue dimming as
standard. The small profile of the driver allows it to be fitted within the cut
aperture of the luminaire for simple installation.

These can be coupled with single, double or triple mounting plates in a
choice of shapes, allowing the lighting designer complete creative freedom.

Single Bin Light EngineBin selection is critical to the colour consistency and efficiency of any
LED light engine, especially when remote phosphors are not used.
The Concert S/SE range utilises a group of 7 high quality LEDs from
a precise bin selection, coupled with a specifically designed lens
array, to produce an ultra compact direct LED light engine without
the need for reflectors. This allows precise beam control and a
colour rendering index of greater than 80. Colour consistency is
unparalleled with only a 4 Macadam ellipse tolerance throughout the
life of the luminaire. Concert S/SE is available in two colour
temperatures and both 500 & 1000 lumen outputs for complete
design flexibility.
Visual ComfortPrecision lenses direct light to give the maximum optical
efficiency, whilst the 7 LED head replicates the sparkle and
visual interest of traditional small TH solutions.
Thermal ManagementThe miniaturisation of a LED light engine brings it’s own challenges.
A pin block heat sink is utilised in the Concert S/SE range as it
combines the greatest surface area with the smallest volume to
produce an extremely efficient thermal radiator. This allows the
LED’s to operate at maximum efficiency.
Remote DriverThe Concert S/SE range has a remote driver, minimising damaging heat
transfer from the luminaire. It has integrated terminal covers for simple
and safe connection and is available in fixed output or analogue dimming
variants. The small profile of the driver allows it to be fitted within the cut
