Subjects
Subjects covered in this course include: area clas-sification, temperature classification, gas groups, IP ratings, impact protection and other environmental influences, ignition sourc-es, marking and identification, legislation, directives and standards, earthing, bonding, protection methods, wiring systems and gland-ing, installation, maintenance and inspection.
Theory instruction
The initial theory instruction, based on the IEC 60079 Standards, generally takes a period of three days. You will learn the principles and key points associated with the selection and use of equipment in explosive atmospheres.
Assessments and certification
The assessments are both practical and written and take a further two days to complete the course. Each candidate is required to demon-strate competence through a series of practical assessment tests and a multiple choice exami-nation. If you pass the exams you will receive a CompEx Certificate of Core Competence indicating which units you were successful in. Certificates are valid for up to five years from the original certification date.
Accredition
Established in 1994, the CompEx Certifica-tion Body, JTLimited is accredited by UKAS to IEC/ISO 17024 : 2012 Conformity Assessment - General requirements for bodies operating cer-tification of persons who work in explosive at-mospheres - Certification Body Number 0270.
CompEx Scheme
The CompEx Scheme is the global solu-tion for validating core competency of employees and contract staff of major us-ers in the oil, gas & chemical sectors, both with offshore and onshore activities. The purpose is to protect both their workers and their capital assets. How? By train-ing their electrotechnical and mechanical craftspersons and application design engi-neers who work in explosive atmospheres.

The CompEx competency scheme is developed by the Engineering Equip-ment and Materials Users’ Association (EEMUA) and JTL, the leading work based learning provider to the building services engineering sector. About the course
The CompEx Scheme currently consists of twelve knowledge and assessment modules (Ex01-Ex12). Quercus offers the first four mod-ules in Abu Dhabi (Ex01-Ex04). Those modules are all based on Gas & Vapours and are usu-ally studied together, but can also be studied individually. The modules are given under the authority of JTLimited England and are based upon IEC Standards 60079.
Target Group
Electrotechnical and instrumentation crafts-persons who undertake the physical installa-tion and assembly of new Ex equipment and who perform preventive maintenance and inspections on previously installed equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres.
