What is the Math Placement Exam
After the acceptance of the student to Abu Dhabi Polytechnic (ADPoly), he/she has to take
the math placement exam, before the registration of the courses. The Academic support
department at ADPoly uses the result of the exam, to check the math skill
Timing of the Exam

How to Prepare For The Exam
Use the following tutorial web pages, which might help you make a review of all the
above topics:
Khan Academy (web site: www.khanacademy.org)
Patrickjmt (web site: http://patrickjmt.com/)
You will save at least one
semester of taking math
by taking the time to do a
careful review of the
placement math exam.

you an idea about the exam level and types of questions.
Bring your scientific calculator (Casio FX-991ES Plus, or Similar) and
pen.
What Happens After I Take the Exam?
Once the exam results are available, the student will be assigned to the proper math course.
If the result of the exam is less than 70, then the student will have to take Precalculus course (MATH-100). If the result is 70 or more, then the Precalculus Course will be waived for the student, and he/she can go for the challenge exam for Calculus 1 (MATH-111).
Except for students who register for Higher Diploma in Nuclear Technology
(HDNT), the required result is 80 or more.
The pass score of the MPE is 70%
The pass score of the MPE is 80%

Diploma in Nuclear Technology
New Student Information
New students are encouraged to take the math placement exam. Helpful information as well aspractice questions can be found at www.adpoly.ac.ae. If you have transferred from anotheruniversity and have not received articulation information yet, it is wise to take the math placementexam as it may not be offered later in the semester.
You may also choose to take challenge exams prior to the start of your first semester. See the tablebelow for details.
Math Placement & Challenge Exams
*Challenge exam timings for Calculus II, Chemistry II, and Physics II can be rearranged based on scores from Calculus I, Chemistry I, and Physics I exams respectively.
Are you an ATHS Graduate?ATHS graduates may have the opportunity tohave certain course articulated based oncourses and grades received at ATHS as well as asuccessfully completed challenge exam in thatsubject. New students need to inquire at theArticulation Office within the first two weeks ofsemester of admission.
Need more information? Contact Maitha Jassim Bhadri at 02 695 1075, via email ([email protected]) or in the Student Services Office.
Did you take classes at another university?
If you took courses at another university (in theUAE or internationally) and passed with a gradeof C and above, you may be able eligible to havecourses waived. You must provide theAdmissions Office with official transcriptsbefore the semester starts , so we can begin theprocess. We will review your transcripts and thesyllabi from the courses that you previouslycompleted and notify you within the first 2weeks of the semester if anything can bearticulated. If you feel that you have priorknowledge of a subject, you are encouraged totake a challenge exam (see table to the right)before the semester begins. Articulation mustbe completed during the first semester afterbeing admitted to AD Poly. If you havequestions, you can contact the ArticulationCoordinator at 02 695 1050 or via email([email protected]).
