Among the most influential people to affect change in Oakville are the generous donors who contribute at the Community Leadership level, giving $1,000 or more annually.

When you give a Community Leadership gift you are leaving your mark on Oakville by creating lasting change. You are also setting an example to motivate others to give at similar levels. You join a select group of donors who are committed to building strong, healthy communities.

Your Community Leadership gift to United Way goes far by supporting the combined efforts of a network of 54 programs and services. This network provides the most comprehensive support for an individual or family in need, and helps solve a range of community-wide problems.

If you had told me nine years ago that my life would be touched by United Way, I would have said: “not me”.Sean O’Brien, President & CEO Reliance Home Comfort

2013 Campaign Cabinet Vice-Chair

The birth of a child should be a joyous occasion, not one filled with fear. For Sean and

Lara, it became just that when they found out their beautiful newborn baby boy had life

threatening kidney problems. After numerous tests and a lengthy stay in the hospital,

at the age of 18 months a kidney transplant surgery was scheduled for Eamon.

After his surgery, Sean and Lara’s son required the administration of very strong

medication. Having already lived at the hospital for over a month, while balancing the

attention and care of their two other children, Sean and Lara were eager to take their

son home.

If it wasn’t for Acclaim Health, a United Way Oakville funded agency, Eamon would

not have been able to be discharged from the hospital. Acclaim Health provided an

alternative by offering an in-home medical support program.

Today Eamon is a happy and healthy 8 year old boy, capable of playing soccer and

hanging out with his friends. Your support to United Way Oakville and our 33 funded

agencies help to ensure that families, like Sean and Lara’s, are able to meet life’s

challenges. United Way touches people in our community from many walks of life.

No single person can change a society on their own. But when we work together and pool our resources, change is possible. United Way provides our community with the services and programs that are needed to improve the quality of life for our most vulnerable citizens. Children who need a helping hand to give them the opportunity for a better life, seniors who are isolated and alone, individuals suffering from mental illness and have nowhere else to go – United Way can change lives. This is why we are proud to donate to United Way Oakville.

United Way is the one charity we should all support. It encompasses all manner of worthy causes, is professionally managed, and delivers on its annual promise to help those in need. Those of us who are fortunate enough to not need its services have a duty to give back to the community. United Way is that conduit. Mattamy has always supported United Way and for me, joining Mattamy and supporting it in its efforts to give back was a natural. No one had to twist my arm!

After I lost my job in the recession 25 years ago, I found myself a single father with a 3 month old and 2 year old. Faced with raising a toddler and infant on no income, I needed help. If it wasn’t for United Way agencies I don’t know what would have happened to me and my sons. People don’t realize that you can be one event away from my situation – a death in the family, an illness, a job loss can have devastating impacts if there is no support system. I am proud to give back to my community through United Way Oakville to ensure that others have someplace to fall back on when they are faced with hard times.

Annual Report2012 was an outstanding year at United Way Oakville (UWO).

Not only were we able to invest a record $2.277 million to the network of frontline

agencies, but we also invested in six new programs for a total of 33 agencies and

54 funded programs.

In addition to allocating more funding into the community, we partnered with

generous companies throughout Oakville to distribute thousands of dollars worth

of products to people in need including shoes, winter coats and school supplies.

As well, approximately 250 people contributed over 1,000 volunteer hours

through the United Way Oakville Day of Caring Program.

United Way Oakville was successful in securing an Ontario Trillium Foundation

grant for $123,100 to purchase a new donation and information management

system called ANDAR. This comprehensive system will allow UWO to better

serve the community by providing a more efficient and sophisticated approach to

donor and funding management.

We also made progress on our Child and Youth Mental Health Awareness project.

UWO has become more actively involved in many existing community networks

and roundtables in order to provide support to agencies dealing with this issue.

United Way Oakville has also been active in leading an initiative to bring a

Community Door model to Halton Region. This multi-service, shared space

concept is already successful in other communities and would be an asset in

Halton Region.

Thanks to your generosity and support, more children, families and seniors in the

Oakville community have help to live the best possible lives they can. Thank you.
