REMEMBRANCE DAY Remembrance Day was a very well attended event in Fruitvale with between 600-700 at the Cenotaph for the service. Thank you to all of the public for attending. A special thank you to the veterans in attendance, WO Stephen Piccolo, OMM, CD, Retired and the armed forces cadets for sentinel duty, the RCMP honour guard, Pastor Kent Maddigan, Lt(n) Llora McTeer Commanding Officer, 131 Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corp Kootenay for vocals, and the Beaver Valley Youth for "In Flanders Fields". And of course, thanks to all those who laid wreaths in remembrance. The Remembrance Day community lunch following was a huge success; about 450 guests were served. The Village of Fruitvale hosted this event with Columbia Power Corporation and RDKB Area ‘A’ being sponsors. Larry Fitzpatrick, Laura Doherty, Howard Fitzpatrick, Emma Doherty and Camryn Haines prepared and served the lunch. Kris Woods and Larry Fitzpatrick tended the bar. The BV Nighthawks set up the table and chairs, Tammy Gallamore and the Beaver Valley Youth Club set tables and decorated. Gillian Leslie shared her beautiful painting of ‘IN FLANDERS FIELDS’, displayed on the stage. Bert Kniss provided entertainment...the oh so famous HARMONIACS. Thanks to McAuley's No Frills, Marino Wholesale, Liberty Foods and City Bakery for supporting the event. The organizer for the luncheon was Vickie Fitzpatrick and we cannot stress how appreciative we are of her skills and volunteering nature. A big thanks to all the volunteers for their dedication and hard work in making this event all that it was meant to be IN HONOUR OF OUR VETS! Thank you all of the contributors and supporters as without you this would not take place. Thanks to each and every one that came out and made this such a satisfying event, this was a very gratifying day.

VILLAGE OFFICE & PUBLIC WORKS CHRISTMAS CLOSURES

The Village Office will close at Noon on Wednesday December 24 and will reopen on Monday January 5, 2015 at 8:30am.

Public Works will be closed from Thursday December 25 to Sunday December 28 and

Thursday January 1 - Sunday January 4, 2015.

For emergency matters needing immediate attention, please call 250-367-6162 and your call will be forwarded to Regional Fire Services in Trail. They will relay your emergency to our employee on-call.

It’s that time of year again for snow reminders: Residents are reminded that all vehicles must be

removed from boulevards and you must provide off-street parking for your visitors so vehicles do not impede the snow removal process. Vehicles restricting snow removal will be towed at the owner’s expense. Warnings will not be issued.

Please do not place plastic or tarps on the boule-vard, this is dangerous for our crew and damages equipment.

Please be aware that the Public Works Department maintains only the portion of Bluebird Road from Highway 3B to Scout Road. The remainder of Blue-bird Road is maintained by Emcon Services. Resi-dents may notice that all of Bluebird Road may not be plowed at the same time. Emcon Services can be reached at 250-693-5609 or in an emergency 1-866-353-3136.

Businesses and residents are required to maintain sidewalks for safe pedestrian traffic and to remove snow within 24 hours of a snowfall.

If you move snow from private property onto any street or sidewalk, you will be invoiced by the Village for time spent clearing the snow.

Safety Notes: Please keep children safe and do not allow them

to play on snow banks next to roads. Trucks and plows frequently slow down, turn

and back up—please stay well back from trucks and plows at all times for the safety of both you and the snow plowing crew.

Please drive carefully, slow down, use winter tires with good tread, watch for black ice and drive according to road conditions. Let’s make sure everyone makes it to their destinations safe and sound.
