Councillor Staples reported that Judy Brandon is checking whether it is

possible to have a Satellite Venue for the Guinness Book of World

Records Fitness Challenge at City Square. It was suggested that the

application was not sent in time, but this will be confirmed or denied within

the next couple of days.

Janine Frank and Sandra Whiting from Ceevacs reported that people are

now signing up for the Centennial Shuffle. The first 300 people to sign up

will receive a 'Race Bib'. They have been promoting the event at local

schools. The 'Super Hero1 theme has been scratched and instead the

focus has been centered on encouraging people to participate. All of the

paper work has been submitted to the City, they are waiting for approval

of the Street Closure Permit, and approval of Insurance through the City's

policy. Peter de Verteuil is taking care of the Insurance. Free registration

for the Centennial Shuffle is available at the following Ceevacs website:

http://www.ceevacs.com/shuffle.shtml.

It was suggested that more diligent use of the City's Centennial Twitter

account would really help in promoting the various events scheduled

throughout the year. Don Hatton mentioned that Tweeting' is a very easy

and effective way to communicate ideas and events, and that if every

member of the Centennial Committee tweeted information about their

event, it would spread throughout the community very quickly.

Councillor Sharon Jackson reported that the City has received a $75,000

grant from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development in

order to help with the Centennial celebrations. This funding is to directly

support the arts and culture components of the celebrations. The Budget,

submitted by the Director of Finance, Peter de Verteuil, was discussed. It

was decided that Councillor Jackson would clarify some of the numbers

with the Director of Finance and report back to the next Centennial

Committee Meeting.

Fountain Update Judy Hill reported that she spoke to someone at Corix who informed her

that they will donate $1,000 worth of materials towards the construction of

a new fountain. It was discussed that further fund-raising efforts for this

project are underway. It was also discussed that a portion of the $75,000

grant from the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development

could be used to fund this project.

Geocache Councillor Sharon Jackson reported that 6 of the Centennial Geocaches

Update nave j36en placed at various locations throughout Duncan. To date, 37

people have found the first cache.

RE: Power Box Wrapping

Here is what information I have gathered for the power box wrapping if we want to go ahead with it.

Squarefoot signs, while looking like one of the more expensive, is inclusive of the image. Everyone else wants

us to provide the imagery, which would require the purchase of existing graphics or hiring someone to take

photos of shrubberies for us.

I am doing mock ups of other boxes, i.e. the ones along the tracks, that we can look at hopefully at the next

meeting.

Sorry about the confusion this morning Sharon.

I thought I had forwarded to Lynn for the agenda, but it looks like I didn't.

Attached is what you sent me.

Here is a summary:

Square Foot Signs (Victoria) - $570 including install (no graffiti?)

Leon Signs (Duncan) - $545 including install and Graffiti Laminate

Alley Kat Signs (Victoria) - $492 + $300 install + travel time (Why do they also have an 18x30 part to their quote?

The top?) (No Graffiti?)

Webb Signs (Duncan) - $ 384 + $16 install (no graffiti) (32 sq ft in total by my calculations)

Webb Signs (Duncan) - $ 576 + $16 install including Graffiti (32 sq ft in total by my calculations)

So it seems that Leon Signs is the cheapest and they are local?

Sorry about the headache.

Tricia said you asked me to send it out to the committee, but I wanted to check if this is what you envisioned.

Thanks,

Peter de Verteuil, cga

Subject: RE: Centennial Baby

We were all coming home from after a long day of doctors apts and picking up kids from school, some old lady pulled out

broad side our lane at the co op gas bar on Canada ave.

As we got closer i said to the old man (Cory) We are going to hit her aren't we?, he replied "Yep, no avoiding it" I had

time to check the girls, and make sure all three of them were buckled, and make sure the belt was under my belly, and

not over, after we broadsided her, she put her car in reverse and backed up about 2 feet and back in to drive and drove

in to us.

I looked around and thought to myself, well I am in labour now.... I had her less than 6.5 hours later. After hours of x-

rays and a stay in the emerge, Dr. Luc Beaudet said there was no going back, I had dilated to 4 cm instantly. She was on

her way out! A month early but was healthy enough to not need an incubator or any other special equipment like that.

Now we have Harmony Health Care coming in Monday to Friday to help me with my cleaning and daily activities, along

with physio for Cory and my self.

My oldest two are suffering from headaches and back aches, its a nasty occasion to remember, and I have to remember

it for the rest of my life as Zariah's birth was a result of an accident! Anyway we are off to nanaimo for a bone scan for

Cory, he has a compressed spine as a result of the accident and its possibly fractured as well...

Have a good day Sharon! and you should pick us for your centennial baby!! And there's a picture of Zariah!!

Whoa! I am so glad she was born safely and I hope that you are both well. What a trauma!

Alas, 5799 Garden Street is about 3 houses outside the Duncan city limits. We have been pretty firm so far on the

boundary thing, but I will check with the committee.

I will keep you in the loop.

Best wishes to you and your family!

Good afternoon, Anna. Rhoda Taylor tells me that your child may be our Duncan Centennial Baby.

Can you tell me when your baby was born and your street address?

We want to, at the very least, have a Certificate made as well as include a photo of your family in the Centennial Time

Capsule which will not be opened for 25 years.
