    TRAINING PROPOSAL FOR MANAGERIAL/

    SUPERVISORY STAFF (ADVANCE GROUP)

    Level I: Communication Skills

    Learning Objectives:

    Understand how to communicate with a limited range of people, on day-to-day matters in a form that is appropriate to the individual and the situation

    Recognize the need for timely communication

    Understand the process that leads to effective listening and informationgiving, including the importance of non-verbal communication

    Understand how to reduce barriers to effective communication, includingenvironmental (noise/ privacy) personal, and social (language, ability tounderstand)

    Recognize how culture and ethnicity can impact on communication styles,expectations and preference

    Understand the importance of presenting a positive image of her/him selfand the service

    Understand how to accurately report and/or records work activities accord-ing to organizational procedures

    Understand the importance of communicating information only to thosepeople who have the right and need to know it consistent with legislation,policies and procedures, for example confidentiality, data protection act,complaints resolution, language interpretation, family dynamics.

    Reflect limitations with regard to communication and involve appropriatecolleagues as necessary

    Recognize subjects that are inappropriate for general discussion in front ofothers, i.e. own social life etc

    Understand the emotional impact on people when coping with their illnessand how that
