Power steering system in the vehicle enables the driver to steer the

wheels with some source of power other than the drivers manual force .

Power steering means power assisted steering.

HPS are designed to assist the operation of the rack bar by generating oil pressure in the pump

The internal cavity is divided into

two chambers by a sealed piston attached to the rack

Applying pressurized hydraulic fluid to one side of the piston while allowing fluid to return from the other side to a reservoir provides steering assistance.

A valve attached to the pinion gear controls the hydraulic fluid flow and helps to turns the wheels in the required direction

EPS works with the help of an electric motor and a control unit having some sensors .

The electric motor mounted to the side of the rack rotates a steering gear with an applied force that reduces the torque required from the driver.

The torque sensor attached to the pinion shaft signals a control computer when to provide assistance

EPS eliminates many HPS

components such as:

Hoses Fluid

Drive belt Pulley

Basic differences :

HPS is more

complicated than EPS

HPS uses hydraulic

mileage than HPS as

it consumes less

power
