PhosphorousPhosphorous are widely used to promote plant growth and seed production. It is also used in killing pests and production of pesticides. Though it is flammable, it is used in the industry to manufacture fire retardant in rubbers, resins and plastics.

NitrogenOther than being commonly used as a fertilizer, it helps to provide an unreactive atmosphere to preserve foods, and in the electronics industry during the production of transistors and diodes. Moreover, large quantities of nitrogen are used in in annealing stainless steel and other steel mill products.

ChlorineOther than a commonly used bleaching agent, another major use for chlorine is in organic chemistry. It is used as an oxidizing agent and in substitution reactions. 85% of pharmaceuticals use chlorine or its compounds at some stage in their manufacture.
