Commemorative Days are used by various governments, groups and organizations to raise awareness of an issue, commemorate a group

or event, or celebrate something.

Some of the international days are observed by the United Nations.

Skyscraper Day September 3

Commemorative Days

Skyscraper Day takes place on September 03, 2016. It is on September 3rd because that is Louis H. Sullivan's birthday (1856), the architect credited with the first skyscrapers. Because of Sullivan's remarkable accomplishments in design and construction at such a critical point in architectural history, he has sometimes been described as the "father" of the American skyscraper. The day is celebrated by acknowledging the architectural and engineering feats that make such buildings possible. The day encourages people to learn more about the science and art of building skyscrapers.

International Day of Charity September 5

The International Day of Charity is observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The prime purpose of the International Day of Charity

purposes on the local, national, regional and international level.

International Day of Peace September 21

The International Day of Peace, sometimes unofficially known as World Peace Day, is observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and

violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. The Day is dedicated to peace education, the key preventive means to reduce war

sustainably.

European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages is 26 September, as proclaimed by the Council of Europe on 6 December 2001, at the end of the European Year of Languages (2001), which had been jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union.

Since 1980, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has celebrated World Tourism Day on September 27. This date was chosen as on that day in 1970, the Statutes of the UNWTO were

demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.

World Rabies Day September 28

World Rabies Day takes place each year on September 28, the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur who, with the collaboration of his colleagues, developed the first efficacious rabies vaccine.

World Rabies Day aims to raise awareness about the impact of rabies on humans and animals, provide information and advice on how to prevent the disease, and how individuals and

organizations can help eliminate the main global sources.

The International Day of Non-Violence is observed on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi. This day is referred to in India as Gandhi Jayanti. The resolution by the United Nations General Assembly asks all members of the UN system to commemorate 2 October in "an appropriate

manner and disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness."

World Animal Day October 4

Commemorative Days

World Animal Day is an international day of action for animal rights and welfare celebrated annually on October 4, the feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. It started in

1931 at a convention of ecologists in Florence, Italy who wished to highlight the plight of endangered species.

World Teachers' Day October 5

Commemorative Days

World Teachers' Day, held annually on October 5 since 1994, commemorates teachers’ organizations worldwide. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs

of future generations will continue to be met by teachers. According to UNESCO, World Teachers' Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding and appreciation

displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development.

World Post day happens each year on October 9, commemorating the date for the establishment of Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The UPU was the start of global

Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the

importance of standardization to the global economy.
