There will be two sessions: one tailored to the needs of KS3 students, and a second one aimed at KS4 students. It will showcase the talents of Denis Coleman, who broke into the music industry after touring with "The Vamps" on their tour of the UK this year. Since then, hes toured Europe and he sold out his own headline tour of the UK earlier in the summer. Not just a singer, Denis has been honing his musical craftsmanship from the age of 4 and the multi-instrumentalist even wrote his first original song aged 10. Still a teenager himself and having had his own experiences with bullying and mental health, he feels he is in the perfect position to deliver these messages to our students. A close family member sadly passed away from drug abuse, so he has some very relevant stories to share with our KS4 students regarding these issues. We are asking for a one-pound contribution per student, to help cover the travel expenses of the artist. Any questions, please contact Mrs Midgley.

IAG Event

Our rescheduled IAG event, which was cancelled due to illness, will now take place on Monday 11th November.

There will be two sessions: one tailored to the needs of KS3 students, and a second one aimed at KS4 students. It will showcase the talents of Denis Coleman, who broke into the music industry after touring with "The Vamps" on their tour of the UK this year. Since then, he’s toured Europe and he sold out his own headline tour of the UK earlier in the summer.

Behaviour and Rewards

There have been a number of developments and additions this year around the monitoring and rewarding of behaviour and attitudes.

Positive and Negative Behaviour Points

Feedback from the weekly email detailing a summary of positive and negative events has been that it has been well received overall, and we are currently planning on keeping this in place. The email is sent on a Friday evening and reads 'In the last week, Student name and surname, has had 1

positive and 0 negative events recorded.' As I explained before, we also hold confidential information in the system, and so we are not in a position at present to give parents access to the specific details of events in this email (though I realise that the generic email directs you to do this!). We are exploring ways with Go4Schools in which this may be possible in the future. Most students at some stage do make low level mistakes, and any more serious incident should have already been communicated to you at the time. If, however you see a recurrence of negatives over a sequence of weeks, please contact your child's learning coach who will be able to give you more details, and arrange a meeting in college if needed. It is also possible for you to switch off these notifications!

Homework Additionally we are implementing a new centralised system of homework catch up sessions (also known as detentions) for students. The session is held on the day that the homework fails to be handed in, at lunchtime for twenty minutes, leaving students time still to have their lunch. Next week there will be an automated email sent to you

each time that your child is placed in a session so that you as parents and carers remain fully informed. Students who are regularly not completing homework, which is an

essential part of learning beyond the classroom, will be followed up and may be required to attend the homework hub after school to enable them to stay on top of the work they are being asked to complete. As always, if there is a specific reason why a student has not completed homework they should follow the usual procedure, inform the relevant teacher before the lesson, and in most cases allowances will be made where this is not a frequent occurrence. We are hoping this will also assist us in monitoring where students are struggling so that support can go in place.

Celebrating Success

Last half term we were able to celebrate many successes with our students. Attitudes to Learning in college are crucial if students are to become the best that they can be. Independence, participation and being

ready to learn are all core values that will serve them well throughout their lives. Attendance in school is essential if students are to make the most of all of the opportunities available to them during their school years. We recognise that there are times when unavoidable absence is necessary, however, particularly as we head into the winter months, we encourage all students to do their best to keep coming in!

Heads of House took tea and biscuits with members of their house who had excellent or improved Attitudes to Learning (AtL) in the recent progress reports Additional house points have been added for exceptional and good AtL, and for making high levels of progress across all subjects Coaching groups have been treated with biscuits for good attendance Darwin House had early lunches for a week to acknowledge their achieving collectively the best average AtL scores Darwin House had early lunches for a week to acknowledge their achieving collectively the best average AtL scores We will be continuing to recognise the achievements of our students and hope to include some more ways of sharing success in the coming months.

Particular articles that parents are currently accessing online include: 1. Having a conversation with your child

2. Online grooming: how does it work?

3. Sharing pictures of your children

4. Gaming: what parents and carers need to know

Please feel free to contact the Safeguarding Team at the college if you ever have concerns and would like to talk things through to find advice and support. Thank you Mrs. Pope
