Controlled atmosphere (CA) storage is a must to for extending the survival period. The produce saved is produce gained. In India better to have cold storage near producing area then consuming area. Precooling the produce immediately after harvesting and maintaining it at a low temperature throughout its period of storage prior to consumption. In CA it is important to reduce oxygen content to 5% and increase carbon dioxide content to a certain limit. Produce use oxygen for ripening and carbon dioxide is the end product.

Carbon dioxide scrubbing system is to be used to prevent excess carbon dioxide. The average price for a 2ton storage warehouse is 3.65 lakhs and for a refer of same capacity is 1.9 lakhs . The temperature range is medium (-5 Celsius to +5 Celsius) range.
