technicol imt~”ons to maintainers of the equipment. They W“ll

signalman, this is speci@d in section E afthe Rule Book.

DROP AWAY SHUNT TEST

0.8 The objective of the test is to ensure that the reley action issatisfactory when the drop awey shunt value is achieved.

0.9 The technician must ensure by visual observation that relayoperation is sherp and positive.

O 10 Signif icent changes in the drop away shunt valua must beinvestigated and reported to the supervisor.

0.11 The value of the drop away shunt should be noted either as thetrack relay just makes its back contacts or where only frontcontacts exist when they ara fu Myopen.

0.12 The minimum acceptable acrossthe-rails dmp away shunt valuefor a particular type of track circuit is ehown in Appendix A.Ideally an acrose-tha-rells drop away shunt value of at least0.8 ohms is expected.

RELAY COIL VOLTAGE OR EQUIVALENT.

0.13 The value of the ralay mil voltage or equivalent should be notedwith the track circuit clear of trains and train shunt.

At the reley end of the treck circuit with the tram shunt appliedm accordance with Appendix A Service B train shunt poeition,obtain the velue of the drop eway shunt in accordance withitems 0.8 to 0.11.

Where there IS a varletlon between this and the previouslyrecorded value (due regard should be taken of eny changedweather conditions that could effect the ballest resistance) adrop away shunttest shouldbe cerrledout with the trem shuntmwliadto the rails.

If recahbratlon of the track circuit IS necessary the FULL TESTshould be carried out.

Measure tha voltage acrosstha track relay coIl, control coil whereapplicable, in accordance with Item 0.13.

Assessthe condition of the ballast.

Record the valuas and othar deta on the back of the remrd cardtogether with the latest setting number from the front of theremrd card.
