BackgroundJames' family moved from Ireland to New York to make a better life, he was 5.James excelled in school, his father worked 3 jobs to send him to college. Heattended Miskatonic University majoring in History and the Occult. James workedat a local bookstore while attending his classes to earn some extra money, heput most of it into savings. He just fell in love with books during this period,he had found his calling. After graduation James purchased a small shop, with

living area above, in the Village. A small sign out front reads "Irish DreamsBook Shoppe". The shop specializes in the occult.

James' father was a scholar who traveled to Universities in England, France,and Germany. His father spoke multiple languages and, at a very early age,taught James French and German. The lessons continued after they came toAmerica, to escape war, when James' father had to take menial jobs to support

his family.

Irish Dreams is nestled between two brownstone-type buildings in the Village.The sign is mounted from the door and is posted in a Gaelic script whichmirrors the writing on the big plate glass window that lets in plenty of lightfor the shop. Three steps lead up to the stained glass door. As you enter theshop you notice the hardwood floors and floor to ceiling bookshelves. A ladderis needed for the upper shelves and a wheeled affair is visible from the door.

The smell of books and wood polish assault the senses. A small counter is set

near the door. Behind the counter, on a shelf, you notice what looks like ahuman skull, various candles, and a large crystal ball. Two overlarge chairswith a floor lamp are near the front window for customers. The rest is shelvesthat are neat and organized, James knows exactly where every bit of his inventoryis located.

At the rear of the shop is a locked door marked 'PRIVATE'. This door opens toa set of stairs that leads to James' modest apartment. The front is a livingroom and kitchen combination. The hall leads back to a bathroom and then tothe bedroom. It is cozy and smells of books which can be found piled throughoutthe apartment.

MY NOTESJames has a fedora and long overcoat. He likes coffee (double sugar) and whiskey(Tyrconnell ). Hell also drink brandy. He and Jackson Elias were close, had much incommon, and Jackson occasionally came to his bookshop. He is also close toBenjamin Steinberg. He isnt reticent at all, athletic and a man of action.

James was shot in the chest by a Skinny White Man outside the Chelsea, andhospitalized. There was also a Tall Black Man. They both got a good look at him, andgot away in a roadster.But he also got a good look at both of them!

James was open to psychiatry with Thorpe, and to hunting down the perps.

He seems to have lost it after the funeral, feeling inadequate. He last left the Cove the

night of Jacksons funeral (January 22nd 1925), insisting on being alone.

TO GM

The funeral was on January 22nd, the meeting at the Carlyle estate is on January 26th sothat's four days.

His Model T isn't on his character sheet; neither is a gun, although he hints that he has

one when he walks Kensington out to his car. Does he? If not, I want him to haveacquired one in the intervening time. I'd also like him to get a camera, with a long lens if

possible, binoculars, and some kind of knife he can fight with (not just the pocket knife inhis bag). And a physical journal that hes writing in. I'd also like him to start letting his

hair and beard grow.

GAME SUMMARY (via PC)

- Our friend Jackson Elias murdered by Cultists

- He was investigating some kind of cult and the disappearance of the Carlyle expedition,who might actually be alive

- Our friend James seems to have fled town. Our friends Earnie and Yorick were both

killed.- The sister of the thought dead Robert Carlyle is employing us to continue investigating(thats the scene we are in right now, in the Carlyle estate thread, January 26 th, 1925).

- Our best lead is a store called the Juju house in Harlem, which our friend Jackson's

notes led us to.

The group is all friends who formed a reading club many years ago. They read everything

from science to history to the occult.

One of their friends was Jackson Elias. His bio is in your notebook.

Elias telegrammed them that he was coming into town and had some big news but henever showed at the Antiquarian Cove, which is, an antique store owned by Benjamin

Steinberg.

The group went to the Chelsea Hotel where they suspected Elias might have been staying

while in New York. When they arrived at the door they interrupted three men murdering

Jackson. The men fled after killing on of the friends and almost killing two others.

They found a few clues and have worked with the police in trying to discover who is

responsible for their friends murder.

In the course of their investigations they have come to understand what Jackson wasworking on. They believe he believed that some members of a missing expedition to

Africa survived. The transcripts of the news articles regarding the Carlyle Expedition arein his notebook.

Five years ago the Carlyle Expedition were believed all murdered by Nandi tribesman inAfrica.

Currently they have all signed a contract with Erica Carlyle, Roger Carlyle's sister to

discover what happened.

The contract requires the investigators to maintain complete discretion regarding the

investigation. The fear being that the family fortune could be put at risk if Roger is evensuspected of being alive. He was declared dead five years ago and Erica has been running

the company.

Once through the current scene I will have one of the other players summarize the

background in character to get all questions answered.

Quote Ben @ Ericas: "We already know Jackson (Elias) thinks (Jack) Brady (expeditionfactotum) to be alive. "I believe the enemy are still after Jacksons notes which I have in

my possession.

Start in the Cove and then go to the Chelsea then the hospital and then back to the Cove

and the Funeral.

PC: In regard to James, he wouldnt know about the Plaza hotel or be able to find us - I

wonder if once we've left here Ben should swing by the Cove, and find you lingering

inside (its plausible you have a key since Ben offered them out a couple of days back

early on in the game).
