Coaching Model
Journey to Find Your Authentic Self
This coaching model is designed to take the client on a journey to
discover their authentic self. It is easy to become enmeshed with
others and have them impose their values and beliefs on us before we
realize it we are living someone else’s dream.
We may find it difficult to speak our truth or express our wants and
needs without feeling guilt and shame. We can feel overly responsible
for other people’s feelings. We can neglect ourselves by not setting
boundaries. We may set unrealistic goals for ourselves in order to
please others. We lose ourselves in relationships. Our lives become
unbalanced.
I invite you to get on board, unload your excess baggage and together
we will Explore and Assess your needs, your values and underlying
beliefs. We will examine any Automatic Underlying Commitments that
may be preventing you from being who you want to be. In the
discovery process we will focus on your assets not your liabilities. We
will examine your past achievements and successes. As your coach I
will be your accountability partner and together we will experience the
journey of a lifetime. Questions to think about where I am right now:
1. Are my values and beliefs aligned with who I say I am? What are
they? Are my beliefs empowering me or disempowering me?
The Privilege of a Lifetime is Being Who You Are 4
2. Are there new behaviors that I would like to practice that can be
helpful in becoming more authentic? What are those behaviors?
3. What am I committed to? Is that actually showing up in my life?
The next step is Awareness. As your coach I will ask powerful
questions to raise your awareness, when you first become aware of a
situation or a problem, you may react with fear or anxiety. Awareness
is the first step towards positive change and growth. It’s the first step
toward the future. Awareness is how life gets our attention and
prepares us for change. Questions to raise awareness:
1. Can I make an honest list of my assets?
2. What do I have to be grateful for in my life today?
3. Do I know where others end and I begin?
4. Do I accept unacceptable behavior?
Then comes Acceptance. Acceptance is the magic that makes our
present circumstances good. It brings peace and contentment and
opens the door to growth, change and moving forward. It shines the
light of positive energy on all that we are.
1. Am I willing to take a personal daily inventory of my actions in
order to see my progress and accept where I am?
2. Can I accept that this is an inner change that is needed and if
others are the problem there is no solution?
The Privilege of a Lifetime is Being Who You Are 5
3. Can I see that the more secure I feel the more risk I take?
Actions. In order to move forward what are the goals the client needs
to attain in order to effect positive change.
1. Direct communication: helps the client state their needs and
wants clearly.
2. Setting boundaries: empowers the client in letting others know
what is acceptable or not to them. Healthy boundaries can
protect us they can be flexible and changeable unlike walls that
are rigid.
3. Learning to negotiate conflict: helps the client to move forward
as their fear of conflict prevents them from saying what they are
thinking or feeling. Not speaking our truth inevitably leads to
resentments.
4. Keep the focus on yourself. We can focus on others in order not
to look at what may be going on with us. We are only able to
change ourselves.
The end result would be freedom to be oneself, to speak one’s truth to
feel a new confidence to pursue one’s dreams and to feel fulfilled.
