Passing Warm Up

Coach : CoachFX Academy Time : 10 minutes Age/Stage : Mixed Youth Phase : Warm Up DrillTheme(s) : Technical - Passing, Technical - Control, Tactical - Possession General

Objective

● Set the theme of passing for the session.

Set Up

● 12 to 15 players in groups of 3 with 2 at either end and one in the middle.● Cones marking either end which should be 30 yards apart.● 3 balls per group.

Rules

● Ball starts at one end with player passing in to middle player who plays a cushioned pass back forthe end player to pass long to the other end.

● When the opposite end player receives it they run with the ball to the opposite end.● Each player moves up one position to rotate the group.

Coaching Points

● Change the speed of pass according to the distance.● Short pass with instep and long eventually with the top of the foot or the laces of the boot.● Communicate before you pass or receive.

3 Team Passing Square

Coach : CoachFX Academy Time : 20 minutes Age/Stage : Mixed Youth Phase : Game Related DrillTheme(s) : Technical - Passing, Technical - Control

Objective

● Create opportunities to develop passing and receiving skills.

Set Up

● 25 x 25 square with 3 teams of 4.● One team has a ball each, the other 2 teams have a ball per team.

Rules

● One team is position on the outside of the square with one player on each side, one ball per teamand is asked to pass the ball to each other on the outside.

● One team is given a ball each and is asked to dribble inside the square.● The other team is given a ball and asked to play passes on the inside.

Coaching Points

● Angle of passing.● Awareness of creating space to receive the pass.● Variation in speed of pass.

3v3 with Target Players

Coach : CoachFX Academy Time : 20 minutes Age/Stage : Mixed Youth Phase : Exp. Small Sided (Stage 3)Theme(s) : Technical - Passing, Tactical - Possession in Midfield

Objectives

● Create a game like situation to help improve passing and receiving in tight areas.

Set Up

● 50 x 30 area with small sided goals at either end and a 30 x 30 midfield zone marked out with cones.● 2 teams of 4 with a neutrall midfielder playing with teh team in possession. Both teams having 1

player as a defender and 3v3 in the midfield zone.

Rules

● Teams attempt to pass the ball through midfield and onto the opposite target player.● Eventually create a break out from midfield and a 1v1 with the end defender to score a goal.

Coaching Points

● Speed of passing.● Creating angles to receive passes.
