Level 3 Programme Review
2012
Quality Assurance
• These programmes need to be reviewed according to Co. Cavan VEC’s Quality Assurance Policy:
• B5 Programme development, delivery and review
• B9 - Self-evaluation
What we are reviewingOur 3 Level 3 programmes:• Certificate of General Learning (Everyday
Learning Skills)• Certificate in Employability Skills (Skills
for Employment)• Certificate in ICT (Skills for ICT)
General
• Overall, comments were positive.• There seemed to be no difficulties in the
layout and structure of the programmes.• Some indicative content and assessment
will be amended according to comments and suggestions.
Application of number
• Suggestions to add a few points to the indicative content
Art and Design
• A section on presenting work – Level 4/5 standard
• Too many finished pieces required
Breakfast Cookery
• Evidencing some of the skills demonstrations was difficult
• A lot of content for only 5 credits
Career Preparation
• Difficult to source materials for the course• Too difficult for many Youthreach learners• Perhaps too much to cover
Communications
• Suggestions to remove some of the indicative content, e.g. the personal letter
• Interpersonal communication needs reworking with not as much having to be covered, clearer
Computer Literacy
• Some tutors unsure of 3rd skills demonstration, more clarification needed
• Too much theory
ESOL
• Too many reading pieces• Insufficient emphasis on writing
Horticulture
• No issues!
Hairdressing Basin Skills
• No issues!
Internet Skills
• Too theory based• Some discrepancies between indicative
content and specific assessment
Mathematics
• Possibly too much information in the indicative content, difficult for learners to complete the component due to the amount of work that needs to be covered
Managing Personal Finances
• Details such as APR difficult for the learner
Personal Care and Presentation
• Hair washing procedure should be a skills demonstration not collection of work, but FETAC have stated 100% portfolio
Personal Effectiveness
• Some assessments too vague
Woodwork
• No issues!
Word processing
• Some indicative content too detailed• Some important aspects left out
Just a reminder….• Indicative content – ‘indicative’ – it’s a sign
of what you should be covering• All learning outcomes must be covered• All specific assessment must be covered• Sometimes learning outcomes are
repeated or they overlap, integrate where possible
To sum up..• Indicative content – match this content to
your learning outcomes• If it states ‘to include’ – you should cover
all, if it states ‘for example’ – choose the most appropriate examples
• Check the specific assessment• …….then you are ready to start writing
your assessment briefs….

valuable comments and suggestions.
