Today’s Meeting: Objectives:Teachers will prepare to implement the Steps for Effective Learning in classroom lessons for all subjects.

We will: Discuss IGP reflections. Create cluster meeting norms.Define the Steps for Effective Learning.Model identifying these steps in lesson plans.Develop lesson plans with the Steps for Effective Learning.

Why do we need to consider the steps for effective learning when planning lessons?

CFA career teacher averages for presenting instructional content is 3.33.

CFA average for lesson structure and pacing is 3.23.

Both will be positively impacted by conscious use of the steps for effective learning.

We’ll also look at how several other rubric indicators are impacted by the steps for effective learning.

what

Let students know why the new learning is important.

Present the new learning.Students ‘obtain’ knowledge.

Students practice the skill.

Students apply what they’ve learned independently.

Assessment and/or reflection

how

Connect to:standardsStudent goalsPractical use

Teach the new information and model performance expectations. The ‘I do.’

Students practice the skill with teacher and/or peer input. This is the ‘we do.’

Students practice on their own and teacher circulates or pulls a small group. ‘you do’

why Give students a reason to care about the lesson.

Introduces info and shows exactly what students need to know how to do.

-Eliminate observed errors-Differentiation opportunity-whole group teachable moments

Students practice the skill they’ve learned.Teacher intervenes when needed.
