Sustainability is the capacity to endure .Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.• Reduce packaging • Recyclable packaging• Biodegradable and compostable packaging • Renewable packaging
Sustainable development
• Paperlike mono-film based on calcium carbonate or talk and a special seal layer
• Reducing the gauge of PET from 12 micron to 9-10 micron
• Reducing the gauge of PE from 50-60 micron to 40-50 micron
Reduce packaging
• Producing laminate from identical raw materials :
• BOPP/CPP
• BOPP/BPP
• Producing laminate from mono-layer for example :
• PP – mono film
• PE – mono film
Recyclable packaging
• Traditional plastics are made up of synthetic polymers
• In fact, over 90% of all plastics produced today are made from only five polymers: polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride), polypropylene, polystyrene, and polyethylene there phthalate)
• However, environmental concerns have increased interest in green plastics that are made from biopolymers
Polymers
Biopolymers are compounds made by all living organisms including plants.
For example : rubber, starch , cellulose , proteins and DNA.
Biopolymers are renewable, sustainable, and can be carbon neutral.
What are biopolymers?
A renewable resource is a natural resource that iscreated in the environment faster than it is used upby people .Biopolymers are renewable, because they are madeFrom plant materials which can be grown year onyear indefinitely
Renewable packaging
• Biopolymers are biodegradable, and some are also compostable
• Some biopolymers are biodegradable : they are broken down into CO2 and water by microorganisms
• Some of these biodegradable biopolymers are compostable: they can be put into an industrial composting process and will break down by 90% within 6 months (under European Standard EN 13432 2000)
Biopolymers
• Biodegradation is a process where something breaks down into simple compounds as a result of the action of microorganisms (like bacteria, fungi, or algae)
• Hydro-biodegradable materials are first broken down by interaction with water (a process call hydrolysis)
• Photo-biodegradable materials are first broken down by interaction with sunlight (a process call photolysis)
• Oxo-degradable materials created from traditional polymers and additives and become degradable

ADDITIONAL ISSUES
1. QUALITY.
2. HACCP – BRC CERTIFICATION.
3. TRACEABILITY.
4. ISO 18000 / 14000.
5. PROCESS CONTROL.
DATA QUALITY = PRODUCT QUALITY
SALES Vs. PRODUCTION“CONTRACT”
Quality Concept
To fulfill customers requirements and expectations, in an effective and profitable way, thus creating a
win win situation for both companies
Quality Target
The Target is reached by a constant
endeavor to reduce variations
along the supply chain .
Quality Concept
• Raw materials• Production facilities• Human factors• Production systems• Environmental factors
Quality Variation Causes
• Human Factor:1. Prerequisite language and education level
2. On the job training
3. Professional training
4. Adequate salary and benefits
5. Periodic feedback
6. Safe working environment
7. Managerial involvement in major projects
How CLP Copes with Quality Variation
• Production System:1. ISO 9000, 14001, 18000, HACCP, BRC certification2. Production managed according to Theory of Constraints principles3. Field laboratories4. Highly equipped central laboratory5. BOM and Scheduling software6. Computerized Data Collection7. LLI Forecasting System.8. Full Traceability.9. Quality plan for major projects.10. Every major defect is investigated and followed by CAPA procedure.11. CAPA measures are periodically checked for effectiveness
How CLP Copes with Quality Variation
• Environmental factors :1. Air conditioned production halls2. Closed, protected production area3. Regenerative Thermal Oxidation System4. Solvent retention tracking5. Solvent recycling
