2009 Livestock Market Agreements - don’t forget they are due May 1st, signed by you, your parent,

and your animal project leader if you wish to sell at the 2009 Trinity County Fair as a 4-H member in good standing. If you missed the copy that was in the Dec/Jan Cloverleaf, it is also available at the 4-H county website.

2009-2010 is the 50th year anniversary of Trinity County All Star Program! Wouldn’t it be great if we had a TEAM of All Stars next year?! The All Star position is a “working” honor. An All Star takes on leadership roles at 4-H county events, attends State Leadership Confer-ence in August, and conducts an All Star project or “Plan of Action”. The selection committee is looking for teens who show initiative and enthusiasm for 4-H. Requirements to apply for All Star: 14 years by Jan 1, 2010, 9th grade or above for 2009/2010 program year, Gold Star or higher, must have been in 4-H at least 3 years, and served as a Junior or Teen Leader. Please view the application on the 4-H county website and call the 4-H Office with any questions. Applications (and letters of recommenda-tion) are due to the 4-H Office by May 1, 2009.

Club Leaders: August 25th – 6:00 pm at the 4-H Office conference room in Hayfork will be the annual Mandatory Club Leaders training and meeting. Please do not miss this meeting! It has been set for Tues-day night of fair week in the hopes you will already be there, but not busy watching your children participate in an event. An annual meeting is necessary to go over new policy that changes from year to year, and to go over enrollment procedures, and for you to ask any questions, and share information with the other club leaders. Please put this date on your calendar now, and make every effort to attend so you won’t need to make a separate trip later on.

Project Leaders: Please remember to call your project members well ahead of each meeting to remind them of the time and date, or to let them know if you have to cancel a meeting. From time to time I get calls from parents who haven’t been notified of a project meeting, and are unhappy their child has missed out on the important information given at your meetings.

4-H member’s art projects wanted! The Weaverville Chamber of Commerce has invited 4-H members to display their art or craft work at their public office on Main Street in Weaverville. Items the kids have made in their projects such as photos, paintings, drawings, or something fairly flat that can be hung on a wall are suitable. Please contact Kelly at the chamber at 623- 6101 to arrange a time to bring in your artwork. This is a great way for community members and tourists to see what talent our 4-H kids have and to promote the program!

Congratulations to Wyatt Henrikson of Zenia 4-H for correctly guessing the location of the hidden clover in our March issue of the Cloverleaf newsletter! Well done, Wyatt! And for

those who are unfamiliar with this contest: a 4-H clover is hidden in each issue of the Clover-leaf newsletter, it may be ANYWHERE, except on the front or back cover, so keep your eyes

open! If you spot the hidden clover, just call the 4-H Office at 628-5495, or email your name, what club you belong to, and where you’ve spotted that clover to [email protected].

Needs to have done well at a fair ( showmanship and/or market) Must have completed the animal project for 2 years minimum Must have access to the animal you’re presenting to bring to the showcase

( hopefully it is your animal for fair this year) Must be able to transport the animal to the Showcase Added bonus if you have qualified for Round-Robin Must be able to present well

Format for the Workshops: The workshops will feature each of the species in the large animal round robin: beef, dairy, sheep, swine and goats. Each workshop will be split into two parts: one on selection, housing and feed of the animal and the second on preparation for fair, grooming and showing the animal. Workshops will be presented by experienced 4-H and FFA members, who have been successful at raising, showing and selling livestock. The presenters will be responsible for having livestock on site for demonstration and evaluation. Each workshop will have 4 presenters, 2 for each section. For example, 10 participants will go to the beef workshop and 5 will hear about selection, feed and housing and the other 5 will hear about grooming and showing. After 20-25 minutes they will switch. Participants will then move on to another animal and the presenters will repeat their presentations to a new group. The presentations could contain some quiz bowl type activities, judging of the animals with reasons, hands on setting up for showmanship, grooming, handouts, etc. This will allow participants to rotate through the majority of animals in the round robin and gain exposure and knowledge about each type of animal.
