MOVE is back for 2017! And, youth and adults can register for it on 4HOnline!! Enrollment for new and re-enrollment for current MOVErs begins now and continues until May 1 (please make sure to register by May 1 so you can participate in the competition!). As you know, MOVE promotes physical activity and encourages youths to engage in a broad range of activities such as
walking, biking, running, swimming, dance, taekwondo, gardening and more.
Here’s what youth and adults need to do to participate:
Enroll in the Move Across Missouri (MOVE) project (HF775) in 4HOnline in their pro- file. Enrollment in 4-H MOVE does not count as a part of county limits on projects.
4-Hers and adults can register for the competitive event as individuals and/or as part of a team. An individual MOVEr may also be a part of a team. A team can consist of a family or members of a 4-H club or group. MOVE awards will be provided.

State Meats Judging Contest
February 25, 2017 Eckles Hall University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo.
The meat industry is an important component in Missouri agriculture. The Meat Identification and Judging Contest has been developed to encourage 4-H members to develop skills and abilities needed to enter and advance in careers in the meat industry. These activities are designed to encourage the development of broader analytical skills, critical thinking, the use and understanding of appropriate meat terminology, and the evaluation of meat animal products to optimize economic returns not only to them as producers, but to them as consumers as well.
Missouri Pork Expo
The 2017 Missouri Pork Expo and In the Show Ring are rapidly approaching. In the Show Ring is February 7, 2017. Those youth attending also receive Show Me Quality Assurance certification/recertification. We are strongly encouraging attendees to pre-register!
All information is on our website, http://www.mopork.com/events/missouri-pork-expo/. Click on the Register Now button to register and pay (if necessary) online.

4-H Food Quality Assurance Policy: All 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects
(including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy
goats, rabbits and poultry) must complete the appropriate
level of Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance (MSMQA)
certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing
in that project. Other county good standing guidelines might
also apply.
Members enrolled in meat animal projects should take the
SMQA training twice from age 8-13 and once over the age of
14. Go to http://www.agebb.missouri.edu/smqa/ or attend an
in-person training above.
1. Qualified to Show means the member has participated in Show Me Quality Assurance
training within the calendar year of the State Fair Show.
2. SMQA Conditional Certified for youth age 8 to 13 by January 1 of the program year
certification is conditional. To obtain the conditional certification status a member age
8 – 13 by January 1 has participated in two consecutive years of the training. Once they
obtain a conditional status they do not have to take a refresher course until they are 14
by January 1 of the program year. Upon completion of the refresher course they would
be SMQA Certified for the remainder of their youth exhibition career in either 4-H or
FFA.
3. SMQA Certified Youth in 4-H or FFA who attend one training after the have turned 14 by
January 1 of the program year will be considered SMQA Certified and no further training
will be required for the remainder of their youth exhibition career.
Thank you to everyone who attended the Cattle
Clinic on January 21st. Also “Thank You” to
Ray Carroll for sponsoring our event.

Valentine Snack Pots
What you need
• Terra cotta clay pots
• Pencils
• Acrylic paints
• Spray sealer
• Valentine stickers
• Ribbon
• Paint brushes
• Newspaper
• Pencil (With new eraser)
• Sponge
• Plastic terra cotta pot liner
What you do
Lay the newspaper on a work space. First, show the
children all the supplies and tell them to think about
what they want their finished pot to look like.
Paint the inside and the outside of the pot and let it
dry. It may need more than one coat to cover it.
Decorate the pot.
Try different methods: polka dots can be made by
dipping the pencil eraser in paint and dabbing it on
the pot. Stickers are easy to use. Conversation hearts
can be glued on. Use a sponge to add another color
on top of the old one. (Get the sponge wet, wring out
the water, and dab it into the paint. Wipe off the
extra paint on the newspaper. Dap it lightly onto the
first color.)
When it is all finished, spray with acrylic sealer and
let it dry.
Put the liner in and fill with a nutritious snack (or
conversation hearts!).
