2. Dissemination materials 2.1 Website

The Cloud LSVA website https://Cloud -lsva.eu/ (mile stone number 1) was developed at the beginning of the project and it is managed by ERTICO. It is the go to place for all information about Cloud LSVA. The website has been launched in 2016 and has ever since been updated with project news, dissemination materials, information about events, papers and presentations produced by the consortium.

Figure 1: Cloud-LSVA Webpage

The website was designed to be easy to navigate and the contents have been written in an easy and understandable manner for all types of audiences where English is not their mother tongue. The website is the first communication and dissemination tool and includes all the material (news, events, videos, media, deliverables) produced by the project.

Figure 2: Cloud-LSVA Webpage Document Section

Another important feature which has been implemented is the Public Deliverables section under the Library page (https://Cloud -lsva.eu/library/), under which all documents can be downloaded in PDF.

The website has been kept updated with news related to the project and external events, as well as with interactive materials, such as videos, which make the project dynamic and give the user (even non-experts) a clear idea of what Cloud LSVA develops.

After having collected an important amount of material, especially videos depicting the in-vehicle annotation, the Cloud LSVA website has been updated during 2018 with examples of the project’s technology. A Video Library has been created under the Library section, collecting videos from the project consortium and, in order to better promote the project, ERTICO ITS Europe has created a teaser video which sums up the project’s scope of work and which aims at attracting a larger public, especially for the final event. Short clips provided by

Vicomtech have also been uploaded, showing different levels of annotation.

The last video created for the project shows various scenes from the final event, which was held in Stuttgart on the 29th of November 2018.

Parallel to the video library, a section called “Cloud LSVA and Partners in the news” was added. The scope of this section was not only to give visibility to the project and its Partners, but also to give to the wider public a concrete sense of how Cloud LSVA’s technology can be applied to on-going developments and everyday life. Cloud LSVA has also reached important newspapers, such as The Irish Times, which has published content related to Cloud LSVA multiple times.

Figure 3: Cloud-LSVA in the News

Cloud LSVA is also a reliable source of knowledge, to be shared with everyone. For this reason, another section, called “Papers and presentations” has been created, collecting academic and scientific material provided by the project’s consortium.

Regarding the visits to Cloud LSVA’s website, during the three years of project activity, the number of new users has increased from an initial 1,015 in 2016 to 1,850 in 2018, as shown below:

2.2 Printed materials A first leaflet was produced and distributed at several events in 2016. During the evolution of the project, two other versions of the leaflet were produced, namely in 2017 and 2018.

Figure 9: Cloud-LSVA leaflet: (i) 2016 (ii) version2017 version

The brochures have been distributed at different events and especially at ITS Congresses, such as the 2016 ITS world Congress in Melbourne, the 2017 ITS European Congress in Strasbourg, the ITS World congress 2017 in Montréal and the ITS World Congress 2018 in Copenhagen.

Cloud LSVA’s coordinator was also informed of the opportunity to promote Cloud LSVA’s final event during the 25th ITS World Congress held from the 17th to the 21st of September 2018 in Copenhagen, so a leaflet was created, shared in PDF to all the project consortium to print and share. The flier was distributed before and during the Congress. Along with the leaflet, an updated version of the brochure was printed in August 2018, outlining in particular the period during which the final event would have taken place (November or December, instead of only December).

2.5 Social Media Given the target of the project and in order not to create too many different accounts and groups, no social media accounts have been created. However, news and events have been communicated through ERTICO social media platforms (Twitter and Facebook) and Twitter accounts from the project consortium.

Tweets have been an excellent promotion and branding for Cloud LSVA, in particular approaching important events, such as the 25th ITS World Congress and the final event, as shown below:

The hashtag #AutonomousVehicles was used on the ERTICO account (@ERTICO, which has 6,106 followers) to best promote Cloud LSVA.

Via Twitter, Cloud LSVA’s posts have reached important numbers of people, as shown below:

Figure 17: People reached via Twitter

LinkedIn has also been used as promotion tool for the project. The reason for this was to gather the stakeholders interested in Cloud LSVA’s technology and to have a better chance to attract stakeholders with knowledge and interest in this technology.

Cloud LSVA’s posts have been among the highest retweeted on ERTICO’s account (between 10 and 5 retweets for most posts). Retweets are important, as content is then shared with all followers of the account which has shared.

In addition, as shown in the picture above, ERTICO has promoted Cloud LSVA involving project Partners by organizing stand presentations (http://cloud-lsva.eu/2018/10/03/453/ ) where project Partners could present the project to the public. In this occasion, Cloud LSVA has also been presented by Vicomtech at their stand.

An additional tool for promotion and dissemination has been the ERTICO Newsroom and weekly newsletter. All the news published on the Cloud LSVA website are fed into the ERTICO Newsroom and automatically sent to ERTICO’s GDPR compliant mailing list, which collects new subscribers on a daily basis and is distributed to 3,298 subscribers. The ERTICO weekly newsletter is a solid tool for promotion and since the implementation of GDPR, it has collected an opening rate above the average 21%, therefore guaranteeing Cloud LSVA-related news good visibility. In particular, Cloud LSVA has ranked among the top 5 articles clicked, second only to MaaS:

Facebook has also been used to publicise events and invite stakeholders.

2.6 Media relations The relation with local and European press is a key activity for Cloud LSVA in order to increase the public visibility of the project and to get Cloud LSVA familiar to external stakeholders.

Throughout the duration of the project, this task was carried out through different activities:

• organisation of conferences/events

• release of press notes

• contact with individual magazine and media

In 2016, since its kick off in late January, Cloud LSVA was presented by ULIM at two conferences in the same year: The European Insurance Forum, attended by over 300 people and with strong online presence, and the 7th ITS Ireland Annual Conference & Exhibition 2016.

In three years of activity, Cloud LSVA was presented to both technical stakeholders and to a wider public of ITS experts during more than 27 conferences, workshops and events at national, European and international level and the consortium was active in local, regional and national media, as can be seen in the section “Cloud LSVA and Partner in the news” (http://cloud-lsva.eu/library/ ).

Partners were also encouraged to distribute and translate press notes and important announcements to their media contacts and are responsible for monitoring any outcome. They are also encouraged to contact local media and propose articles and interviews which are communicated regularly to the coordinator and communication manager. All articles are collected and available online on the website under the section “Cloud LSVA and Partner in the news” (http://cloud-lsva.eu/library/ ).

3. Overview of events and activities

3.1 Cloud LSVA Final Event and Demonstration

3.1.1 Report Coming to its final phase, the Cloud LSVA project held a high level event on the 29th of November 2018 in Stuttgart, Germany, welcoming the European Commission, the consortium with Cloud LSVA’s experts and stakeholders from the public and private sector. During the event, the participants enjoyed the experience of seeing live demonstrations showing in real life how the Cloud LSVA’s services work. Test vehicles were equipped with latest sensor technologies (i.e. camera, laser, GPS), and recording and processing units to produce online recordings and metadata, while semi-automatic annotation tools were created to produce accurate and reliable automatic annotations, and web applications for human operators to refined and validated.

Indoor and outdoor demos were shown. Outdoor demos consisted in three cars (made available by Valeo, Vicomtech and Tu/e-TomTom), which covered the route around the venue location, the best choice to detect surrounding objects (pedestrians, animals, infrastructure, road traffic, etc.) to demonstrate the in-vehicle annotation. Participants had the change to ride in all three cars and to listen to the explanations of the experts.

At the same time, twelve demonstrations were shown in different stations indoors. Participants had the chance to visit each demo and discover Cloud LSVA’s latest technology. Between the demonstrations, presentations were given by the consortium Partners, with an engaging panel discussion, with all 50 participants asking questions and participating in the debate.

The presence of Fabian Pütz, insurance expert, made it clear that autonomous driving, including Cloud LSVA’s technology, will have a major impact on jobs and legislation with which each person deals with on a daily basis. Starting from the insurance sector, autonomous driving will have an impact regarding liability: who will be responsible in case of accident, the car or the driver? Another important point was considered the privacy of the images registered by the cameras. Will privacy be guaranteed when applying these recording technologies?

From the research point of view, Suzanne Little from DCU pointed out that although level 5 automation is far fetch at the moment, full automation in vehicles will be useful in the future for the logistics sector and therefore, find a place in the market.

From the consortium’s point of view, Cloud LSVA services can be applied to and facilitate different sectors, from ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) to medical imaging, agriculture and large infrastructure surveillance and security and CCTV systems. According to Marcos Nieto from Vicomtech, Cloud LSVA results during the three years of project are the

following:

• Online annotations can be produced in equipped vehicles, using the latest technologies

such as computer vision and Ai optimised for embedded platforms;

• Data and metadata produced in vehicles can be uploaded and stored to cloud platforms, where it is then processed, managed and made available to be consumed by ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) systems (HIL and SIL) and Digital Cartography updated systems;

• Orchestration of containerised applications on cloud platforms to scale up data processing is possible;

• Web applications to efficiently stream data and metadata to front-ends for manual revision of annotations are possible;

• Metadata format can adapt to the dataflow of annotation systems: online annotation in the vehicles, offline processing at the cloud platform and flexibility and extensibility for its usage by semantic search engines.

3.1.2 Photos A selection of photos has been made to promote the final event while more photos of the event, presentations and demonstration are available for public on ERTICO’s Flickr account (https://www.flickr.com/photos/ertico-its-europe/albums/72157704797032754 ).

3.2 Other events Year 2016

During year 1, Cloud LSVA was presented in many high-level events, workshops and conferences by different members of the consortium, namely VALEO and University of Limerick. Each consortium member reported to the WP6 leader on main dissemination activities as well as to the events they participated in. They reported by filling in a dissemination activity report (below).

One the highlight of 2017 was the ITS World Congress in Montreal, Canada and the ITS European Congress in Strasbourg.

In Montreal, Cloud LSVA was presented in SIS55 - Benefit of IoT and Big Data for Automated Driving and User Trust Challenge”, where Vicomtech was present in a panel with international experts, and the session was moderated by ERTICO.

At the ITS European Congress, Vicomtech organised a Special Interest Session called “Exploiting Computer Vision and GNSS Applications for ADAS and Digital Cartography”, moderated by ERTICO-ITS Europe and featuring Cloud LSVA consortium members from DCU, Intempora, IBM and University of Limerick.

This session addressed the challenge of quality of data, coming from computer vision, positioning and other sensors, which will contribute through sensor fusion to deliver a reliable and precise perception of the driving environment, being critical to enable highly automated driving.

Year 2018

During the last year of the project, the Cloud LSVA consortium has promoted the project in five events and the final event. The events were the following:

- March and June 2018: Conference “Premium development of automated vehicles in the

German motor market: from theory to practice”

Conclusions There have been 53 main dissemination activities during the Cloud LSVA project life cycle. In 2017, a significant amount of work was devoted to the promotion of the project in conferences and presentations, in particular by University of Limerick (ULIM). In 2018, Cloud LSVA was promoted by more consortium partners throughout high-level conferences and the production of writing materials such as press releases and research working papers, in preparation of the last ITS World Congress and final event.

Cloud LSVA’s dissemination of results, lessons learnt and achievements will not stop with the end of the funded project in December 2018, but will continue in other forms and through other channels.

Firstly, the Cloud LSVA website will be available for the next 2 years. The scope of the website will of course be different as it will serve as a sort of static container for everything that has been done in the past 3 years, with updates on the 2018 activities. A clear mention that the project is finished has been added on the home page. All the final deliverables have been made available for download. In particular, a new section called “Continuation” has been added containing information about activities, events, participating organisations and their role in each deployment site as well as in the horizontal support activity led by ERTICO - ITS Europe.

ERTICO will also continue disseminating Cloud LSVA though other ongoing projects and activities such as ARCADE, which collects updated and information on autonomous driving in Europe and is therefore linked to Cloud LSVA.

As far as social media is concerned, project videos will remain publicly available on the ERTICO YouTube channel.

The final results brochure has been updated with the final results and will be made available on the Cloud LSVA website and distributed at future events.
