Recognizing the potential this sector has to promote sustainable economic development across the state of North Carolina, UNC-Chapel Hill’s Institute for the Environment and its Center for Sustainable Enterprise in the Kenan-Flagler Business School, in partnership with the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster, are convening the first UNC-based Clean Tech Summit on February 26, 2014. e Clean Tech Summit will be an annual event, and will seek to advance the development of the clean technology sector in North Carolina. It will be held at UNC’s William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education, THE GOALS OF THE CLEAN TECH SUMMIT ARE TO: 1. Increase key stakeholders’ understanding of the current status and growth potential of the clean tech sector in North Carolina; 2. Provide insight into how successful companies have obtained the requisite financing to support their development; 3. Discuss opportunities and challenges to synergies between public policy and clean-tech supported economic growth in North Carolina; 4. Highlight the multiple dimensions of the clean tech sector; 5. Spur discussion about how to navigate the clean tech disruption; 6. Examine innovative models for workforce development to prepare NC citizens for careers in this fast growing sector; and 7. Explore how a robust clean technology sector can stimulate the economy of the urban and rural areas within the state of North Carolina

The Institute for the Environment (IE) of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill catalyzes and advances

interdisciplinary environmental research to solve local to global challenges, educates the next generation of leaders

committed to the health and stewardship of our planet, and informs and engages the public to enable environmental

problem solving. IE seeks solutions to critical environmental issues - including those related to water resources, public

health, energy, climate change, air quality, land-use change, and biodiversity - to enable sustainable human communities

and their coexistence with natural systems.
