Following the success of the first solar flight around the world, the Solar Impulse Foundation has launched the second phase of its action: selecting #1000solutions that can protect the environment in a profitable way, and bring them to decision makers to encourage them to adopt more ambitious environmental targets and energy policies.

Through the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions, Bertrand Piccard wants to federate the actors of the field in clean technologies and shed light on existing efficient solutions to fast-track their implementation. A new innovative and pioneering adventure has begun – together we can improve the quality of life on Earth.

Bridging the gap between ecology and economyOne of the first to envision ecology through the lens of profitability, Bertrand Piccard has always advocated that protection of the environment would become a reality only if it was perceived as economi-cally viable and requiring no financial or behavioural sacrifices. He actively speaks out against the absurdity of old and polluting devices and systems, and promotes the benefits of new existing efficient technologies and solutions to motivate governments and industries to take action. A FIRST FOR ENERGY

Around the world without fuel, a message of hope Solar Impulse demonstrated how clean technologies and renewable energy can achieve the impossible. Electrical motors with 97% efficiency, LED lamps for lighting system, extremely efficient insulation foam reducing energy consumption for houses, lightweight materials, high energy density batteries, ultra-thin solar cells and smart energy manage-ment, are just a few examples of solutions that can be used, not only in the air, but also on the ground. It’s now time to take the adventure further, for the benefit of both people and the planet.

To protect the environment in a profitable wayThe Round-The-World Solar Flight was not an end in itself. The World Alliance for Efficient Solutions – launched under the auspices of the Solar Impulse Foundation – has already set off to tackle a new challenge: selecting, by COP24 in 2018, #1000solutions that are clean, efficient and profitable. Bertrand Piccard will then go around the world to deliver those same solutions, presented in the form of a portfolio, to relevant governments, corporations and institutions to help them achieve their environmental targets and adopt more ambitious energy policies. And they will of course also be shared for everyone to access and use.

Today, thousands of solutions exist that can boost economic growth while preserving nature, but they are often hidden in start-ups or research labs. To help decision-makers adopt more ambitious targets and policiesFor the World Alliance, Efficient Solutions are not limited to the production of renewable energy. They encompass products, services, clean technologies and processes that are profitable and sustain economic growth, while protecting the environment and optimising the use of natural resources. Examples of solutions already submitted by aspiring Members range from digital heaters, solar desalination plants, free electric car chargers and energy saving industrial processes, to modular energy systems. All candidate solutions that meet the required criteria and are labelled as an “Efficient Solution” will be analysed and categorised through the prism of five chosen Sustainable Development Goals, considering also their level of maturity.
