By Sydney Brown, Class 7 student In Class 7 we study the Middle Ages in order to bring to life the child's interest in the world. We do this by looking at specific moments in history and the way it relates to all areas of people's lives. We explored how people lived, interacted with one another and what values they held. It is important for Class 7 children to look at these past behaviours to help them prepare for the changes they are about to experience. We celebrated a Medieval Festival together with our sister schools, offering challenges in knife throwing, jousting, stick fighting and other team building activities which challenged the children to overcome a variety of obstacles by working individually and in teams. The day was held in the spirit of community and knighthood - upholding the code of chivalry we created as a group.

Medieval festival

On Saturday the 8th of June, the Class 7’s from Constantia, Imhoff, Gaia, Michael Oak, Stellenbosch, Zenzeleni, McGregor and Hermanus all came

together at our school to celebrate the Medieval Festival.

We arrived at 8am and gathered on the field. We were separated into 6 castle groups, each with a teacher as their leader.

Throughout the day we took part in different activities such as: stick fighting, jousting, drumming, ribbon dancing, circle dancing and knife throwing.

Each of our castles performed a circle dance we had learned earlier in the day. We then had a delicious dinner and

sang songs together.

At the end of the evening, we were all knighted by our class teacher. It was a great experience and it was fun to spend time with people from the

other Waldorf schools.
