2. Astoobject

a. Inpersonam – Claim against a particular person. Binding only tothe parties. Examples: Recovery of real property, sum ofmoney,reconveyance.

b. InRem–Directedagainstthethingitself.Bindinguponthewholeworld.Examples:Landregistration,probateofawill,annulmentofmarriage.

c. Quasiinrem–Broughtagainstthedefendantpersonallyalthoughthe real object is to deal with a particular property. Jurisdictionover the person of the defendant NOT necessary. Service ofsummonsisrequiredonlyforthepurposeofcomplyingwithdueprocess.Examples:Attachment,foreclosureofmortgage,partition.
