    Jon Batiste – Friday, Jan. 17 at 8 p.m.

Jon Batiste is a globally celebrated musician, educator, bandleader and television personality whose musical skill, artistic vision and exuberant charisma have made him a triple threat and the newly “crowned prince of jazz.” Batiste delicately balances a demanding schedule on screen and on stage, including his role as Bandleader and Musical Director of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” In 2018 he released his first solo album, “Hollywood Africans,” which was nominated for a GRAMMY award for “St. James Infirmary,” and an NAACP Image award for Best Jazz album. Tickets range from $35 to $100 and are available at YNotTix.com. Three Dog Night – Thursday, Jan. 23 at 8 p.m.

Legendary music icons Three Dog Night had more top 10 hits and sold more concert tickets from 1969 to 1974 than any other group. Songs like “Mama Told Me (Not To Come),” “Joy to the World,” “Black and White,” “Shambala” and “One” crystallize Three Dog Night‘s

continuing popularity. The Grammy-nominated band recently began adding new material by releasing its first single in nearly 25 years. The blistering performance of "Heart of Blues" and the timely, beautiful a cappella ballad "Prayer of the Children” are available online at iTunes, Amazon.com and other digital retailers as well as through the official band website (ThreeDogNight.com). This show was originally scheduled for Sept. 8, 2019, but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Dorian. Original tickets will be honored on this new date, but additional tickets are still available for purchase. Tickets range from $55 to $79.50 and are available at YNotTix.com.

The Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission to Fund Projects Last year’s grants supported 20

nonprofit organizations producing content in Virginia Beach. The Virginia Beach Arts and Humanities Commission in partnership with the Cultural Affairs Department has announced that the project grant application for FY 2021 is now online and open to applicants. This grant, designed to support a wide variety of artistic, cultural and humanities-based activities, provides financial assistance to nonprofit organizations presenting qualifying activities and events between July 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021. The grants may cover up to 50 percent of the expenses on a qualifying project. All arts and humanities related organizations are invited to apply. Grants in fiscal year 2019 provided financial support to 20 nonprofit organizations producing content in Virginia Beach. Those 20 organizations presented 539 programs, reaching audiences of more than 487,000 people, and returned more than $247,600 in admission taxes and other revenues to the City of Virginia Beach. Thalia Creek Greenway Now Open Second phase of Greenway project now complete and open for public use. The third phase is being designed.

Thalia Creek, though a scenic, natural buffer between Town Center and the nearby residential neighborhoods, acts as a barrier to active travel. To improve pedestrian access between Town Center and neighborhoods and advance the goal of making Virginia Beach more walkable, the City embarked on a mission to open up the Thalia Creek corridor. A greenway is a linear corridor of protected open space, often including trails that follow natural land or water features, and linking parks, urban centers and residential districts. The Midtown Apartments developer built approximately 300 feet of the trail in 2009 as a part of the private development. Then, in 2011, a footbridge from Constitution Drive to Midtown Apartments was

constructed with cost savings from the Constitution Drive extension project.

In June of 2012, VDOT awarded the City a $640,000 grant to build the recently completed second phase of the project. The new section connects the western limit of phase one along Thalia Creek to Bonney Road. A boardwalk and overlook provide scenic views of the marsh and creek. In total, the Thalia Creek Greenway is now three-quarters of a mile long. The City received an additional $1 million grant from Virginia Department of Transportation for phase three.
