Shipmates:
Through the channel and into the bay now: March's
wee case of mal de mer has subsided and we're into
April. Recapping the past month: we had our last
crab feed, Paul Lagier and family's terrific Cioppino
dinner, the Sweethearts, St Pat's and a very nice
cb&c member's dinner. Music was in the air
throughout the month with smiles all
around. April is looking rather quiet in compari-
son. A chance to catch our breath a little. Our
club doesn't run without you so why not stop by
and enjoy the fellowship and the excellent
weather? Watch the bulletin board in the club-
house for meeting dinner signups, and please,
please, please rsvp when Glenda sends out those
emails.

March was a great month in the bar. As you
know, we’ve had several cruise-ins, private par-
ties, and other events. Of course the Happy Hour
Fridays helped fill in those few slow times. Tonja,
Barbara, and Beb and Bob have been instrumen-
tal in volunteering. Thank you.
Happy Hour Fridays have been very successful.
We are getting a bigger turnout each week. So far
we have had live music 3 out every 4 Fridays with
the Strange Angels Blues Band taking top honors
as a crowd favorite. I plan to have them back of-
ten. The Friday Happy Hours are from 5-8pm
every Friday except general meeting nights. Please
put it on your social calendar and feel free to in-
vite guests. The idea is to make these Happy Hour
Fridays such a popular thing that the boating
community far and wide will talk about them with
fondness for years to come.
Here is an example of how such a conversation
might take place decades from now.
Imagine being at the Wanaputitinia Yacht Club,
located somewhere in the remote regions of the
South Pacific, in the year 2051.
“Hiya Ed,” Sailor Sam says to Ed the Egg Harbor
Man.
“Whassup Sammy Baby?”
“Remember those Happy Hour Fridays at PSPYC
30 years ago?”
“Oh do I? Nobody does that kind of thing any-
more. When did Country Gangster Rap Organ
music become a thing?”
“You know Eggie, I hate that stuff too. Don't even
get me started on the Japanese Rastafarians. But
I sure remember groovin to the blues at PSPYC
during those Friday Happy Hours years ago. And
the appetizers were to die for.”
“Remember that time Tom took his drum kit and
made a Hibachi out of it? He fed the whole bar
fresh salmon that night. And who was the Rear that
year? That guy was awesome. He had vision.”
And, so it might be. Wouldn’t you want to be a
part of making this extraordinary history? Exactly.
Come on down. Let's make some memories….history.
Now, on a slightly less cheerful note, I have to
put out a call to all members regarding the disap-
pearance of the mosaic tiled tray that hung over
the bar a few weeks ago.
This gorgeous work of art, made by Barbara Fri-
day, was hung over the bar as a decoration about
one month ago. It has disappeared. Barbara liter-
ally cried when she found out. She spent many
hours and a lot of money making this one-of-a-
kind art piece. It is made of colored glass with a
scene of our yacht club all put onto a wooden
serving tray. It looks like a glass painting.
If you took it, for whatever reason, please re-
turn it to the bar. It cannot mean as much to you
as it does to us.
Keep your calendars open for the first annual Ken-
tucky Derby Party May 2nd. Letty and Ingrid are plan-
ning a doozie with hat contests, mint julep drink spe-
cials, live music, and of course the Derby on the big
screen.
FOGHORN April 2015
Welcome to Spring everyone! The weather has been
beautiful & it sure is nice to see all the wildflowers
blooming around town. We got a couple sprinkles last
night but overall the drought situation is serious and
I continue to beg you all to be very conscious of your
water use.
The San Rafael & Alameda Yacht Clubs' Cruise-in
was a huge success! We fit in 32 boats, extending be-
yond the guest docks, rafting up in multiple spots,
tucked in all corners, as well as utilizing our neighbor
& fellow PSPYC member's facility at KKMI. Thank you
Paul! It was a perfect execution of coordination, com-
munication & clever use of resources and everyone
had a great time. Thank you to all who helped.
We had a small but mighty work party a couple
weeks ago. Beb & Deb weed whacked & cleaned up
the front area while Louis dismantled a rotted pallet,
both to make more room for more dry boat storage.
He also started taking down the barbed wire starting
at the south end of the property. It already looks bet-
ter! Bob & John surveyed & evaluated our electrical
and gas infrastructure for the necessary improve-
ments. John also did a complete inspection of the
deck & will be submitting repair plans. Glen spent all
weekend repairing the 2 office computers, then I saw
him later that night with an apron on as part of
Ingrid's all male galley brigade-impressive! Blake &
Lauren (FOL) went to town on the Port Captain's
locker, cleaning and organizing so much, which in-
spired me to continue the effort till 10pm that night
at which time I was rewarded with Ingrid's cooking &
Louis' company enjoying it all in the nice clean space.
Huge thanks to you all. I am still tackling that room
with enthusiastic determination. You wouldn't believe
the things found. No one should have to run to Whale
Point for 10 years! Which leads me to this point: If
you need any supplies for a CLUB Project please ask
me or look in there before thinking about purchasing
anything! Remember, use our resources!
Port Captain
Jenny Knox
It has been noticed that at large parties the
bartenders cannot hear the gate horn, There
is now a Gate Remote Button outside the
galley steps/screen door.
On the club bulletin board there is now a To
-Do List & Club Wish List. Please check it
out. Remember this is an ALL VOLUNTEER
CLUB, we do not have paid gardeners or
dishwashers or maids so please give of your
time & if you use any part of the club, clean
up after yourself. We have an awesome
property here, be proud of it & keep it clean.
In an effort to make our secondary entrance
more presentable, the Free Pile is now over
by the small lockers; we'll find a table to put
there soon. At any given time there are vari-
ous materials lying around the club. I am in
the process of determining what is needed
and/or useful. Some are for member's pro-
jects & many are for ongoing club projects.
Please do not take anything without ask-
ing me or others about its status. Just
because it has been out does not mean it is
not part of an ongoing project or is there for
a purpose (example the upside down black
tub by dumpsters I stand on to recover re-
cycling is not there anymore.) We have an
Honor Bar and I would like to believe we
have an Honor Club, if you have "borrowed"
anything please return it to where you
found it. Thank you all for your continued
efforts to make this club beautiful and run
smoothly.
Peace,
Jen

From the archives, as the Lagiers prepare for another adventure LA DOLCE VITA IN THE SEA OF CORTEZ After spending some time in Cabo San Lucas with son Robert and his girlfriend Erin, Earlene had to return to California to attend to family matters. She flew to LAX and was met by grandson Caleb and daughter Shari and spent 3 days at Disneyland. Earlene had a bit of an adventure herself getting to her plane. She caught the bus from Cabo to the airport. She thought the bus would take her into the terminal. NOT SO!!!!! The bus stopped on the shoulder of the 4 lane busy highway and dropped her and her large suit cases filled with "heavy" treasures she had purchased during her 16 days of the cruise. She discovered that she had to walk across this busy highway a mile to the terminal. She was sure should miss her flight as it was 2:30 PM and her flight was at 3:20 PM. A van carrying 4 Americans also flying out stopped and asked if she needed help. OH YES!!!! She was much relieved not to miss her plane. Robert, Erin, and I sailed LA DOLCE VITA North into the Sea of Cortez. Our first day sailing brought us to Bahia de Los Frailes where we anchored in the afternoon. The Northwest wind was light in the morning when we left Cabo, but gradually built during the day giving us some exciting sailing in the afternoon. Using some of the Bonita we caught during the day for bait we were soon catching large Trigger fish (3-6 lbs.). These fish are hard fighters and delicious when fried in butter and garlic. Los Frailes Bay is the only place I know of in the Sea of Cortez where they are caught. Our fridge was well stocked with these trigger fish fillets. The next day, sailing brought us to Bahia de Los Muertos where we anchored in the afternoon. This day we caught and released several nice tunas. Erin caught a fine one of about 30 lbs. This was the first large fish she had ever caught. I was treated to fine dining in these lovely anchorages as Robert and Erin tried to outdo each other in the galley. The next day cruising brought us to anchor in La Paz Harbor. This anchor-age is a large shallow bay with a long buoyed channel leading to the anchorage area off the city. Much new marina development has happened since I last visited here in 1998. Marina de La Paz was totally destroyed in a hurricane after I had been there. It now has been completely rebuilt and still offers the very friendly service I've enjoyed in the past. I always anchor off this marina when in La Paz.They offer a dinghy dock with good fresh water, laundry services, fuel, and other amenities to cruising sailors. This anchorage is subject to strong winds and tidal currents. It is famous for dragging an-chors, and this phenomenon is known as "The La Paz Waltz". The wind changes direc-tion 180 degrees everyday. LA DOLCE VITA'S 751bs. cast steel Danforth Navy anchor has never dragged in this anchorage. I will continue this in a future article relating LA DOLCE VITA'S adventures as she continues North in the Sea of Cortez.

General Meeting Minutes
March 13, 2015
Paul Maheu called the meeting to order at 8:15 pm.
Rear Commodore: David G.
Last couple months have been crazy. Last weekend’s
cruise in was the biggest of the year.
Friday happy hours will be every Friday and there will
be live music so put that on your calendars.
Port Captain: Jenny Knox
Last weekend was great. It all fell into place thanks to
all who helped move the boats. Boats were rafted all the
way to KKMI. Alameda, San Rafael yacht clubs were here. Everyone had a great time and thanks to all who
helped out.
Jenny asked for how many folks will be coming to the
work party tomorrow. Will work on the chimney leak,
gate card reader and remote issues, dry boat storage
clean up. Jenny asked that we keep the club clean for cruise in’s and that our guests notice the condition.
Please pay attention to the little things that are other-
wise overlooked, trash, cigarette butts, etc. She wants
the club to shine.
The old deck railing will be looked at tomorrow and is a priority to get repaired.
FLEET Captain: Elaine King
Last month’s cruise out was to Clipper Cove. Rob and
Delores and Paul and Earlene attended. Looking at do-
ing another Clipper cove cruise out in April. Details to come. Tomorrow will be a cruise out to San Rafael
yacht club.
TREASURER: Darrell
Most members are up to date. Thanks to Glen Bigalow for fixing the crashed computers on moment’s notice.
He spent a lot of time working on these issues.
PICYA: Sybil
She has flyers for opening day on the bay. Opening day
on the bay is April 26. They would love to have more boats in the parade and we get PICYA points for boats
being entered. Coleen and Sybil had won prizes and do-
nated them to PICYA. Hopefully boaters will join the pa-
rade to get the boats blessed and have a good time on
the bay. The more participants we have the more points we get.
FIRST MATES: Sue Proudfoot.
Successful raffle’s to pay for the defibrillator. Sue said
the first mates discussed the training by the company
that provided the unit. There is a concern about the cost of training for the unit so they are working on ideas to
cover that. They tentatively considering a one-time con-
tribution to the bar towards live music at the bar to help
pay for the training. Other’s pointed out that there are
currently folks certified for using the defibrillator. Jenny
said she is trained on the unit and gets training once
per year, she can show folks how to use it. It’s
easy to use. The unit has step by step instruc-
tions and does not require folks to have formal CPR training. Sybil pointed out it’s about $100
per person to get formal training. Jim Koss (Doc)
said that the unit talks to you and there is no for-
mal training required. He offered to train folks on
CPR and not to waste money on ‘formal’ training.
Sybil asked Jim if we could put together a time to set it up. Jim said anytime. Jim said don’t do
more than you have to do because you can hurt
people and this is some of the information he gave
seminars for Mexico cruisers.
T-shirt contest. They had some nice entry’s and
are thinking about merging two ideas. It will be a
fun T-shirt. There are also on-line t-shirts avail-
able on the PSPYC web site so check it out.
Mike Proudfoot. Mike said he didn’t get Sue a present for Christmas. So he took her out last
weekend for an overnight stay at the Brothers
Lighthouse. Mike said to stay overnight is not
cheap but anyone can go out there for $25 on a
Saturday and spend the whole day there. Ques-tion came up as to how many people live in a light
house. Answer: 10 people live in a light house.
Motion to adjourn. Approved.
“Its not a question of if; it is when”. That is a fa-
miliar theme for the ultimate crash that many us
have experienced. In the case of the PSPYC, it hap-
pened two days before the March meeting and before
any reports were printed so there was a bit of panic.
After intense discussion between our local IT Special-
ist, Norm Harris, and our off-site IT Specialist, Glen
Bigelow, it was determined that the loss of a certain
“dll” file is fatal. Not to worry; Glen came to the res-
cue and loaded up a replacement computer, brought
it down to the club and installed it that same after-
noon and saved the day. For the record, Glen lives in
Sacramento. As luck would have it, the Harbor Mas-
ter computer failed the following day and again, Glen
resolved that issue. What a guy! We owe Glen & Norm
a big “THANK YOU”.

Harbor Master Foghorn Report
April 2015
Happy Spring everyone!
Flowers are blooming out back & garden is growing
out front of our club grounds, which in my book,
means lots of beauty and good happenings. Not to be
missed, check out the time and labor Jenny & Karleen
have put into their gardening talents next time you're
here!
We have no slips available and 3 current on our wait-
ing list. One for a large slip (Casey Garvey) and 2
(Dan O'Dell & Bill Wyatt) for the small slips. It's still
the same for our Dry Storage. All are full with 2 on
the list for containers (Norm Harris & Maarten Kal-
way). You can check out the waiting lists in our club
bulletin board and on the board in the harbor master
office.
If you hadn't heard yet, my sanity was Tested once
again when I had 2 computer crashes all within 48
hours! The accounting computer in the accounting
office on a Wednesday had a DLL file failure and just
died. That Friday the office computer in the harbor
master, did a round 2 of crashing, only this time de-
cided to do a total crash for whatever reason! A call
was put out to our Computer IT Man, Glen Bigelow,
who lives in Sacramento, on Wednesday, when we
had the first crash. He was down 2 hours later swap-
ping out computers, restored & installed everything
and no data lost. The other computer he spent the
weekend on getting me back up and running along
with his doing volunteer help for the Sweetheart din-
ner! My thanks can't be big enough for his coming to
the rescue with the 911 calls. He was amazing giving
the time to keep me (and the club) in operation with
his expertise and timeless work!
