Energy Management Systems Work Group (EMSWG)

New Leadership• Chair: Brian Meadows (SRP)• Vice Chair: Tyler Hansen (IPC)

2015 Goals• Investigate disparities and inaccuracies in calculation of net scheduled interchange• Investigate any links between the size/expertise of an entity’s EMS team and the

frequency/duration of outages (2b/1h events)• Develop a common approach and understanding of impacts of CIP v5 and SCED/EIM on

Energy Management Systems

Other EMSWG News• Network Model Manager (NMM) – After a presentation from EPRI on their NMM project,

the EMSWG decided to closely track those efforts. • In addition to the recurring agenda item for presentations from entities on EMS

architecture, the workgroup added a recurring item for discussions on EMS/Operations support structure and organizational responsibilities.

Data-Exchange Work Group (DEWG)

New Leadership• Chair: Devin Miroy (WAPA-SNR)• Vice Chair: Eric Mscichowski (SMUD)

2015 Goals• Support the widespread adoption of WON Guidelines by having all connected entities

sign the new connection and data-use agreement• Update drawings/documentation on what’s left of the original WON and determine need

for and requirements around failover testing• Support rollout of Peak RC’s Reliability Messaging Tool (RMT) and retire WECCNet

Other DEWG NewsWON/SWEIP – WAPA Phoenix is ending support for the SWEIP network in September 2015. Users unsure of potential impacts. Tim Reynolds will help coordinate outreach to impacted utilities; DEWG will ensure adequate communication and coordination.

Physical Security Work Group (PSWG)

Leadership• Chair: Jay Spradling (SRP)

2015 GoalsEvaluate and select a host for a PSWG webpage that can handle the following:• a Physical Security Dashboard for entities within the western interconnect.• a listserv or blog that allows members to ask questions of each other and share

information, e.g., issues around CIP-014.• an on-going physical security “best practices” document based on our meeting

roundtable discussions and the listserv above.

Other PSWG NewsAt their next meeting (scheduled for July), the PSWG members plan to meet with WECC staff to clarify mutual expectations for the work group.
