THE FULLNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT The church wakes up to an amazing message this morning. Look around and see who has been called. Listen to the voices of those who proclaim Jesus is Lord. You’ll find no race of people left out; you’ll find no language on earth unfit to proclaim the glory of God. We call Pentecost Sun-day the “birthday of the church.” In many ways, the church is still being born. Only when we all know the peace Jesus offered in today’s Gospel will we really know the fullness of the Holy Spirit. St. Paul assures us in today’s second reading that “all of us have been given to drink of the one Spirit.” When we look around us in the church we should see everyone. But we don’t. Not yet. What is holding us back from fully embrac-ing the one Body of Christ? When will we see our differ-ences as manifestations of the same Holy Spirit? Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Safe Environment Ministering to children and young people is the heart of what Jesus calls His people to do. The mission of the Safe Environment office is to assist the Church in cre-ating a safe haven for children, young people and vul-nerable adults. The risk of child abuse is greatly re-duced by breaking the silence about abuse, especially sexual abuse. Breaking the silence is a critical first step to begin the process of education, prevention and heal-ing. The Diocesan office of Victim’s Assistance offers a variety of avenues for victims and family members to report their experiences to our Office of Victim Assis-tance and to be welcomed, to receive pastoral care, and to learn about and access much-needed services. Diocesan staff serving in the Office of Victim Assis-tance believe that individuals and communities are best served through a prompt response to requests for help, respectful listening, attention to their needs, and services to help them in the healing process. If you, or someone you know would like to report or seek help with an allegation of sexual misconduct by clergy or diocesan employees, please contact the following.

LETTER FROM POPE FRANCIS THE “JOY OF THE GOSPEL” CONTINUED...

The Church’s Missionary Transformation—#133

Culture, thought and education

It is not enough that evangelizers be concerned to reach each person, or that the Gospel be proclaimed to the cultures as a whole. A theology – and not simply a pastoral theology – which is in dialogue with other sciences and human experiences is most important for our discernment on how best to bring the Gospel message to different cultural contexts and groups. The Church, in her commitment to evangeli-zation, appreciates and encourages the charism of theologians and their scholarly efforts to advance dialogue with the world of cultures and sciences. I call on theologians to carry out this service as part of the Church’s saving mission. In doing so, however, they must always remember that the Church and the-ology exist to evangelize, and not be content with a desk-bound theology. Fr. Terry’s Remarks—This week we come to the nub of so much of our disputes, debates and fierce misunder-standings today and down through the ages. How do we transmit the content of our faith to each generation? Well! We can draw up a Creed, compose a Catechism, create a fixed Liturgy, keep things simple and easy to memorize. All these most helpful and valuable solutions have been our responses for centuries, so much so that they have themselves become sacred. The problem is their inability to adequately deal with the almost endless variety of situ-ations that we encounter. We have so many different per-sonalities, cultures and discoveries in our lives. To most of us, Truth and Faith are both fixed and fairly obvious so we can't stretch them. Pope Francis reminds us today that once we enter into dialogue with other sciences and new cultures, we have at least to be ready to learn new and different facts and ideas. These in turn should urge to look again at the way we have understood things or ex-pressed ourselves in the past. That's something most of us hate doing while at the same time proclaiming our open- mindedness. The political turmoil we are experiencing in our country at this time is a good example of our willing-ness or ability to enlarge our views or adapt to reality!!! Let us listen again to Pope Francis : '' we must always remember that the Church and Theology exist to Evange-lize and not be content with a desk-bound theology.''
