The countdown to Christmas begins in Kingston on Thursday 16 November

when the Christmas lights are switched on and the Christmas Market opens.

Kingston’s Christmas Calendar

There’s a host of entertainment for all the family in Kingston this holiday season with a jam-packed calendar of events.

Kids can meet some of their favourite authors including Olaf Falafel, Pete Johnson and Maudie Torday in Kingston’s first ever Children’s Literary Festival. The Rose Theatre are set to stun audiences with their magical production Alice in Winterland and the Kingston Tour Guides are preparing a unique and enchanting walking tour of the historical town.

This Christmas will see the launch of the first Kingston Children’s Literary Festival.

This festive season, children and parents alike are invited to listen to some of their favourite festive and non-festive tales from a line up some of the UK’s best-loved children’s authors in the lead-up to Christmas.

You will have the chance to meet the likes of comedian and picture book sensation, Olaf Falafel (‘Father Christmas Heard A Parp’), illustrator and animator,

Tom McLaughlin (‘The Accidental Father Christmas’) author Katherine Woodfine (‘The Midnight Peacock’), blogger and fantasy writer, Abiola Bello (‘Emily Knight: I Am Awakened’) and the award-winning Pete Johnson, author of over fifty books, (‘Louis and the Laugh’)

Kingston Children’s Literary Festival has been designed to appeal to children of all ages and launches on Saturday 18 November 2017. All readings are completely free but need to be pre-booked in advance as spaces are limited.

With Christmas magic in the air, we’ve hidden not three, but seven kings around the town centre. Find them all and you could win an iPad!

How to take partPick up a Seven Kings Trail map from the literature racks on Clarence Street or in Market Place, or download one from visitkingston.co.uk

Each of our Kings is reading a Christmas story. Use the map to find all seven Kings and discover which Christmas classic they’re reading and write the details on the trail leaflet. Once you’ve found all the answers, complete the entry slip and pop it in the special post box by Candy Cane Forest.

Your entry must be received by Sunday 31 December 2017 when all correct entries will go into a prize draw for the chance to win an iPad.

From Thursday 16 November, the streets of Kingston will be transformed into a magical Christmas market spreading throughout Ancient Market Place and surrounding streets encapsulating the town centre in glittering festive cheer.

Throughout the traditional wooden cabins, discover a treasure trove of unique and handmade giftware, perfect for stocking fillers and unusual gifts. In Ancient Market Place and Alpine Village you’ll find bars serving up steaming mugs of mulled wine, classic street-food and live entertainment, perfect for soaking up the atmosphere and getting in the Christmas spirit to discover the rest of the town’s festive food and drink offering.

A new addition for 2017 is Candy Cane Forest, a dedicated children’s entertainment area with festive fairground rides and a few surprises!
