Christie Creek Upgrade Project PROJECT DESCRIPTION This $15 million federal, state and local government funded construction project will supply up to 850ML of treated stormwater for irrigation. The stormwater reuse and distribution system in the Christie Creek catchment is an element of the multi-million dollar Water Proofing the South initiative, led by the City of Onkaparinga. The project will also improve water quality, address known flooding risks, maintain environmental flows, improve biodiversity and provide recreation opportunities. The storage is a critical element of the Christie Creek upgrade project. It provides the necessary storage to enable the harvest, treatment and supply of up to 850ML of stormwater every year, which would otherwise be lost to sea. The storage will be constructed using ‘cut-to-fill’ with a maximum cut of 7.6m and a maximum fill of 6.8m above existing surface levels – giving an overall depth of approximately 8.2m. It will be lined with a plastic liner for improved water quality, to maintain internal embankment walls and to help retain water. It will have a overflow weir and channel will be constructed on the north-eastern edge of the storage. Recreation and landscape improvements include the construction of a 2.5m wide linear trail between States and Panalatinga Roads, new tree plantings around the base of the storage, grassing and groundcover planting.
