FINALLY: Members may recall that on June 26th we voted to amend our FCC Constitution, adding words to our Purpose Clause to meet IRS Section 503 © (3) requirements, thus to gain tax-exempt status to qualify for certain purchases. FCC has now received an IRS letter dated July 14 confirming that we have been granted that tax-exempt status. Building Program Update: All building code issues have been resolved and the City is in the process of issuing our Building Permit. The construction contract has been received from our project manager and once signed by our FCC Trustees that will set construction planning in motion. It may take up to three weeks for the concrete contractor to complete shop drawings and get rebar on site. It’s possible the concrete contractor may start excavation before that. Roger Adams and his crew will be removing necessary asphalt/concrete before excavation begins (you may have notice where existing underground utilities are already marked). So expect to see demolition work to begin within two weeks, and we will have to experience some major inconveniences for a while (what a joy!) Plans are being made for a groundbreaking ceremony soon. The contract dollar amount is $949,216, which will give us a completed multi-purpose structure and a totally renovated east wing. Not included in this contract is cost of partitioning our existing fellowship hall into the new nursery (including a small restroom therein) and a couple classrooms, and post-construction landscaping. These we plan to contract for locally or do ourselves. So, overall, it appears we need to raise an additional perhaps $150,000. The Capital Fund Campaign Committee will be doing a follow-up campaign this Fall to solicit new donations, gain new pledges or encourage those with existing pledges to extend or increase them. The more cash we can raise, the less debt we’ll have to carry. By the way, a good place to start would be a nice contribution to the New Building Fund (Family Life Center) at the Rocker/Shelton Concert at7PM this Friday night. Are you ready?

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL OPPORTUNITY Class had 5 present Sunday. The class had 3 daily readers of the Word and 2 with Bibles. Mary Hamilton opened the class with prayer. Prayers requested for Clara Ann Kempnich, Denise Hamilton, Nelda Potter, Krista Shannon, Jeanine Glidewell, Opal Meyers and Betty Penn. Mary Hamilton presented the class lesson “Unwavering Hope” and closed with prayer.

SOS Class had 18 present Sunday. The class did not meet Sunday due to Jim & Gayle Durham was here visiting and shared with us an update on “The House of Bread Mission” in Haiti. It is always a pleasure to have them visit and bring goodies of Haiti coffee, vanilla, necklaces and woodcarvings that they make in Haiti. The medical “Team Haiti” mission will once again go in March of 2016.

Hey everyone, I am coordinating a blood drive through Red Cross on Thursday, July 28 from 11:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall - 200 South Walnut. We are holding a fellowship gathering in honor of his commitment and calling! The family is providing the meat and request we bring salad and dessert items. Please plan to hang out and fellowship with us following the 10:30 service as we celebrate Doug's Commission to care ministry! Blessings, Chris The Missions team for First Christian Church is raising money for the medical mission to Haiti in 2017. The baby quilts were donated by Marie Donaldson and Mary Gooding. They will be given away at the ice cream social on Sunday, August 14th. To purchase a chance on this quilt please contact a member of the Missions group or Connie Meyer at 913-909-7164. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The quilts are on display in the Fellowship Hall during office hours and on Sundays. The lucky winners of the white and blue quilt were Freida Hiestand and the Psalm Wall Hanging was Toots Watts!
