THE HOPE AND PROMISE OF REDEMPTION The prophet Jeremiah prophesies the end of the Babylonian exile. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord’s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God’s love and care for us. “Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weep-ing, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves” (Psalm 126:5–6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own re-demption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Church Clean-Up Saturday, November 10, 2018

We plan to hold a cleaning day for our church. The event will give us all an op-portunity to pitch in and really give our church a thorough cleaning. We will be open for cleaning from 9am until we’re done. Come when you can, and spend as much time as you can afford during this time period. SVdP Food Pantry St. Vincent de Paul will be collecting non-perishable food at mass. It will be carried to the altar to be offered with our gifts, and then put away to be given to the needy. This is the beginning of a new program and at this point, all things are needed; but we would most appreciate peanut butter, tuna fish, cereal, rice and beans. Those in need of food will be able to come in to receive food on the 2nd and 4th Tue. and Thurs. afternoons start-ing in October. LA ESPERANZA Y PROMESA DE REDENCIÓN

El profeta Jeremías anuncia el fin del exilio en Babilonia. Describe cómo los débiles y los tris-tes ahora regresarán con alegría. Éste es el pue-blo dispersado de Dios: los ciegos y cojos; preñadas y paridas. Serán guiados por un ca-mino llano para que nadie tropiece. La bondad y misericordia del Señor están con este pueblo débil y deshecho. Aquí y en el Salmo 126 (125) encontramos imá-genes poéticas extremadamente hermosas del amor y cuidado que Dios tiene por nosotros. “Los que sembraban con lágrimas, / cosechan entre cantares. Al ir, iba llorando, / llevan-do la semilla; / al volver, vuelve cantando, / trayendo sus gavi-llas” (Salmo 126[125]:5-6). Si bien Dios tuvo que castigar a Israel por sus muchos pecados, nunca se olvidó de ellos aun cuando esta-ban dispersos, y los llevó de regreso a la tierra de sus ancestros para que prosperaran y fueran felices de nuevo. En esto encontra-mos la esperanza y la promesa de nuestra propia redención al re-unirnos, desde todos los rincones del mundo, para celebrar el gran banquete de Dios. Copyright © J. S. San Vicente de Paul Dispena de Alimentos

San Vincente de Paul recogerá alimentos durante cada misa. Serán llevados al altar para ser ofrecido con nuestros dones, y luego guardado para ser entregado al nece-sitado. Este es el comienzo de un nuevo programa y en este punto, todo es necesario en especial: mantequilla de cacajuate, el atún, los cereales, arroz y frijoles. Aquellos que necesiten comida podrán venir a recibir comida el segunda martes del mes y el cuar-to jueves del mes por las tardes comenzan-do en Octubre.

NGUỒN GỐC LỄ CÁC THÁNH Trong lịch cử Hội Thánh, từ thế kỷ thứ 4, các vị tử đạo đã được Hội Thánh tôn vinh. Đến thế kỷ thứ 7, sau khi một số kẻ xấu đột nhập các hang toại đạo tại Rôma trộm cắp hài cốt của các vị tử đạo, Đức giáo hoàng Bonifaciô IV đã cho thu lượm những hài cốt các thánh và chôn cất lại bên trong ngôi đền Pan-theon, là đền thờ các thần của người Rôma. Từ ngày đó đền thờ này đã được thánh hiến trở thành đền thờ kính các Thánh Nam Nữ của đạo Công Giáo. – Sử gia Beda đáng kính đã viết: “Việc tưởng nhớ các thánh trong tương lai có thể thay cho việc thờ phượng mà trước đây không được dành cho thần thánh nhưng là thờ ma quỷ”. Vào năm 800, thần học gia Alcuin người Anglo-Saxon đã cử hành lễ Các Thánh vào ngày 1 tháng 11, và bạn của ông là Arno, Giám mục của Salzburg cũng theo như vậy. Sau cùng, trong thế kỷ thứ 9, Hội Thánh Rôma đã chấp thuận mừng lễ Các Thánh vào ngày 1 tháng 11 hằng năm. – Đầu tiên lễ này nhằm kính nhớ các vị tử đạo. Về sau, khi người Kitô hữu được tự do tín ngưỡng, Giáo hội đã kính chung những tín hữu đã chết trong sự thánh thiện. Vào các thế kỷ đầu tiên, để được công nhận là Thánh, thì chỉ cần được nhiều người công nhận và vị giám mục chỉ làm việc cuối cùng đưa tên vị Thánh ấy vào niên lịch Giáo hội. Việc Đức giáo hòang chính thức phong các tín hữu lên bậc Thánh Nhân chỉ bắt đầu từ năm 973. Ngày nay việc phong thánh đòi hỏi cả một tiến trình lâu dài để chứng minh các đức tính và sự thánh thiện của các ngài. Khi phong thánh cho một người nào, Hội Thánh chính thức xác nhận người đó đã sống cuộc đời thánh thiện và đang được hưởng hạnh phúc thiên đàng để các tín hữu noi gương. Hiện nay ngòai các vị được nêu tên trong lịch gọi là các vị Hiển Thánh, Hội Thánh còn mừng lễ Các Thánh để kính nhớ chung các tín hữu đã chết và đang được hưởng hạnh phúc với Chúa, trong đó nhiều người là thân nhân của chúng ta. Vào cuối thời kỳ lưu đày của dân Do Thái ở Baby-lon, tiên tri Jeremiah báo trước rằng một dân tộc yếu đuối và đau khổ sẽ trở về trong hân hoan. Thiên Chúa đầy thương yêu và nhân từ sẽ dẫn dắt những kẻ mù què và các bà mẹ mang thai trên đường thênh thang để khỏi vấp ngã. Thánh Vịnh 126 cũng diễn tả một hình ảnh Thiên Chúa nhân từ đầy chất thơ, những ai gieo trong nước mắt sẽ gặt trong vui mừng (TV 126:5-6). Mặc dù Thiên Chúa đã phân tán dân Do Thái vì họ đã phạm nhiều tội lỗi, Ngài đã không quên họ, đem họ về quê cha đất tổ để được sung túc và hạnh phúc.
