∗ Choose Civility is an organization that was founded in Howard County, Maryland in order to promote “respect, empathy, consideration and tolerance” in a community.

∗ Choose Civility was inspired by the book “Choosing Civility: the 25 rules of considerate conduct” by Johns Hopkins Professor Dr. P.M. Forni

Posting flyers throughout Winchester

∗ A lot of our meeting time was spent going to different businesses & organizations around the city of Winchester and posting flyers

∗ Everyone was more than willing to help spread the word and really liked our cause

Working with President Fitzsimmons

∗ Having worked with the Choose Civility team last semester, we contacted President Fitzsimmons in hopes that she would help us spread the word around campus

Engaging with students ∗ We all felt that one-on-one

interaction with students would be one of the best ways to help spread awareness

∗ When asked, most students could figure out the meaning of “Choose Civility” but could not say they practice it

Some of the difficulties our team faced:

∗  1. Communication between members ∗  2. Loss of Team member

Difficulties

Page 12: Choose Civility Presentation group 5-1

1. With our team with being busy with work, sports, and other projects. We found it difficult to meet.

∗  What we did instead of working together in person, was that we all met after class and broke up tasks that needed to be done.

∗  This was an easy transition for our team because communicating via email and text message was the easiest solution.

How we responded

2. With the loss of a team member this meant the rest of us needed to pick up the slack.

∗ Although this was a setback for our team, we worked together and were capable of completing the tasks at hand.

How we responded
