An excellent study produced by the Office of Ocean and Polar Affairs Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs U.S. Department of State. The purpose is to examine a coastal State’smaritime claims and/or boundaries and assess their consistency withinternational law. This study represents the views of the United States Government only on the specific matters with regards to China'sMaritime Claims in the South China Sea. unless China clarifies thatthe dashed-line claim reflects only a claim to islands within that lineand any maritime zones that are generated from those land features in accordance with the international law of the sea, as reflected in the LAW OF THE SEA(LOS) Convention, its dashed-line claim does not with the International law of the sea.
