Master classes

1. Grappling with uncertainty In 2012, Curo launched its “Big Plan for the future”. Despite the economic and social context, the Group remained committed “to make a positive and profound contribution to the neighbourhoods in which it worked”. A key part of the Curo transformation was the wholesale rebuilding of the approach to managing risk – or more accurately, “the uncertainty that matters” At this workshop, Victor will share Curo’s journey so far – the challenge of alignment, managing opportunities as well as threats, and focusing on the “real risks”. Whilst Victor would not want to describe the session as a master class, he does hope that some of the learning to date might be helpful elsewhere. 2. Developing the commercial skills needed to deliver kindly sponsored by Procurement for Housing, Affinity Sutton Group and the University of Liverpool have been working in partnership on an important piece of research about the role of procurement functions in social housing. The research included a survey of 120 social landlords and a series of focus groups with senior finance and procurement executives, to discuss how procurement functions could exert a greater influence on their organisations and support the drive towards a more commercial approach. In this workshop our speakers will discuss the findings from the research. 3. Social media for chief executives What exactly are the business benefits of social media? How can Chief Executives and their managers harness tools such as Twitter and Facebook to transform engagement with customers, staff and stakeholders? What are the risks? And the returns? This practical session will focus on how leaders can start to get up-and-running with social media - with minimum risk and minimum effort for maximum impact. Roundtable lunch discussions Please select a ticket for the discussion you wish to attend during registration and refreshments Learning from the global crisis - What lessons can leaders learn to enable us to shape a stable housing market and organisations that are fit for the future? Grainia Long, Chief Executive, Chartered Institute of Housing How can we get on the manifestos of political parties for the 2015 general election? Steve Stride, Vice President, Chartered Institute of Housing How can we ensure the housing leaders of tomorrow have the skills to succeed? Abigail Davies, Assistant Director, Policy and Practice, CIH
