Art work from Windham Primary K-3
artists will be on display in the
Children’s Room at the Windham
Public Library. Come see it when we’re open.
Display coordinated by Art teacher Jen Vasiliauskas.
The library will
CLOSED
MON, APR 17th
for the
Patriots’ Day
holiday
During National Poetry month (April), Bob Clark will display his group of “Twenty
One Poems” on the 2nd floor of the library. Bob’s displays are always a colorful and
thought-provoking mix of poetry and artwork, including a free copy of one of his poems!
Speaking of the pieces, Bob explained that “many connect seasonal settings with personal
thought and action. Some contrast gain with loss— prosperity with hardships that often
lead to an eventual success.” The display will be here throughout the month of April.

If you like Elizabeth Strout’s
books (Olive Kitteridge,
My Name is Lucy Barton,
Abide with Me),
you might also enjoy
Lauren Acamporo’s
The Wonder Garden.
Like Strout, Acamporo’s short
stories brim with people and towns and an
off-kilter domesticity that may feel uncomfortably
familiar.

If you like John Green’s
books (Paper Towns,
The Fault in Our Stars),
you might want to try books
by Rainbow Rowell
(Eleanor and Park, Fangirl).
Both authors focus on
real-life— with all of its hope
and happiness and trauma. And both fill their stories
with characters who feel like old friends, or people
with whom you want to make friends.

As we begin the first full month of spring, we also begin a month of
celebrations! Each April we celebrate poetry, volunteers, and libraries.
To celebrate National Poetry Month, we continue the yearly tradition of
hosting community member Bob Clark’s poetry (see page 1). Stop in and
see what he put together this year.
Volunteer Appreciation Week is April 23rd-29th. In 2016, volunteers supported the library in many
ways, from shelving books to packing our Minerva books for delivery. Our dedicated volunteers provided
over 1000 hours last year to help keep the library running. We couldn’t do it without them, and this
month we honor all our wonderful volunteers with a big “THANK YOU!”
National Library Week, April 9th-15th, has been observed
since 1958. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our
nation's libraries and librarians, and to promote library use and
support. On Tuesday of National Library Week (April 11th this
year) we observe National Library Workers Day. Library staff
members make valuable contributions to the community and this day is recognition for their hard work. Visit
the library and thank your library staff members!
Finally, check out the last page of this newsletter for our new printed calendar of events or
see our calendar online. We have something for everyone. Join us!

Friends of the Windham Public Library meeting & info
Thursday, April 13th, 2–3pm
Friends of the WPL are volunteers who help raise funds for a variety of library programs. We encourage new members to join us! For more information contact Susan Dries at 207-892-9346. In April, when you pick up a Clynk bag for your recyclables to support the Friends, you can get a free packet of wild flower seeds. Three varieties are available to take home and plant. Request a pack when you’re at the circulation desk. Many thanks to Tractor Supply for donating the seed mixes.
