    THE VICE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

    Hi All,

This month I want to stress how important RV generator

maintenance is. Because most of us travel from park to park and

use park electricity, we don’t use our generators that much. Then

when we decide to dry camp and need them most, they can be

hard to start if they start at all. In addition to following your

generator’s maintenance schedule based on hours of use, one

of the most important parts of the maintenance is pretty simple,

running it. One of the primary problems with generators comes

from lack of use. If you let a generator sit for long periods of time without using it, the

fuel breaks down and gets gummy which is apt to cause hard starts or failure to run

smooth. Moisture can also build up and damage a generator if you’re not using it.

It takes no more than a month of idleness for this to happen. It’s important to

remember to schedule time to exercise the generator in order to keep it in good shape.

So, at least once every three or four weeks you need to run the generator for an hour.

It’s better to run for a longer time than several short ones. When running it, run with

no load for five minutes, then run it with a 50% or more load for an hour. They are

designed to run with a load. That means running the air conditioner if it’s hot, or run

a portable electric heater if it’s cold. The easiest way to exercise your generator is to

run the generator while you are traveling – it’s actually more fuel efficient to run that

and use your rig’s roof-mounted/basement air conditioner, than to use the dash air

    conditioner.

    Safe Travels,

    Don

    SUMMER TRAVELS

    Dave/Sandy

Attached is a word file (page 4 Splash) of our summer trip plans. We plan to use our

Thousand Trails membership some of the time while in Oregon & Washington. We

will end our trip at the Dolphins Lake Tahoe rally then head for home.

This was sent in case anyone wanted to join us or hook up with us during the trip.

    Tech Talk

    AJ and Sandi Stiefel

Question - We have a 2000 Tradewinds 7373 (front door entry). The wind noise that comes in around the door is really bad. We have had three or four RV repair shops work on it, but nothing seems to help for any length of time. Have any other members had this problem and been able to resolve it. If so, where did you have the repair made? We love our motorhome, but the noise is really getting worse. Thanks for any suggestions.
