On November 15th, themembers of the charity clubengaged on a journey to thevillage of Trincao, near Quellón inChiloé, in order to help the localcommunity there and be able tomake contact with theinhabitants whom they havebeen collecting money for allyear long.The students travelled to ahamlet inhabited by mostlyindigenous Huilliches, that had aschool composed of fourteenstudents and two teachers. Themain goal was to bring aid to theschool and the pupils, thereforehelping with whatever theyneeded. In this occasion, agreenhouse was built.Activities like fishing, trekking, orfield trips to an island nearby anda salmon factory took place,altogether with a series ofgastronomic experiences likecooking the “curanto al hoyo”.

A series of local dances andmusic were presented to thestudents of our school and weretaught to them. Not only theschool provided them with whatthey could, but things were givento them. People in Trincao have avery humble life, withoutmaterial luxuries. But they arerich in knowledge of theirenvironment. In the community,they support each other. Theyrespect nature. They are happyto live in such spectacularscenery, are thankful for it, areproud of their culture and to bewho they are, altogether withtheir efforts to pass it onto futuregenerations. These peopleshared all of this with our group.Charity club membersparticipated in events they couldnever forget.The whole project couldn't havebeen possible if it hadn’t hadbeen a joint activity. Both parts

enjoyed the experience so muchand taught each other thingsthey could have never expectedto learn. Principles like solidarity,kindness and universal respectare only some of the things weget from these memories made,thanks to the collaboration of thewhole school and thecontributions gotten throughoutthe year.Given to all the efforts made, thechildren of Trincao will get tospend a very special Christmasthis year, since a significantmonetary donation was made sothey could have a great holiday.Then again, none of this wouldn’thave occurred withouteveryone’s cooperation.We can say that the trip was afulfilling experience for all theparticipants and hope to be ableto repeat it anytime soon.

People usually think ofleopards in the savannasof Africa but in theRussian Far East, a raresubspecies has adaptedto life in the temperateforests that make up thenorthern-most part of thespecies’ range. Similar toother leopards, the Amurleopard can run at speedsof up to 37 miles per hour.This incredible animal hasbeen reported to leapmore than 19 feethorizontally and up to 10feet vertically.

Many habitat patches in the area aresmall and fragmented.Northeast Bornean orangutans are the smallest in size and found inSabah and eastern Kalimantan as far as the Mahakam River.Central Bornean orangutans are the subspecies with the most animals,with at least 35,000 individuals.

On the 19th of August thecharity club from TIPS held afashion show for charity. Theevent was held in the school hallwith the stage set up like arunway. Behind the stage is theplaygroup classroom that iswhere the students had theirhair and makeup done, they alsogot changed in that room.Students from key stage one tofour signed up to walk down arunway. Students from key stageone to two had to bring theirown clothes including the boysfrom key stage three to four.Girls from key stage three tofour wore clothes made bydesigner Luz Briceño.

Family and friends were invited to come and watch thefashion show. To raise money for charity there was a foodstand with food that people brought to the event. Such assandwiches, cakes, biscuits, juice and water. To also collectmore money there were charity club members collectingdonations at the front gate.

The Chilean recluse is a venomous spider but also named theLoxosceles laeta. This spider is considered by many to bethe most dangerous of the recluse spider and its bite isknown to frequently result in severe systemic reactions,including death.You can find the spider only in South America forexample in Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Argentina and Brazil.As indicated by its name, this spider is not aggressiveand usually bites only when pressed against human skin,such as when putting on an article of clothing. Like allsciurid spiders, the venom of the Chilean reclusecontains the democratic agent, Sphingomyelinase D,which is otherwise found only in a few pathogenicbacteria.

According to one study, the venom of the Chilean recluse along with the six eyed sand spider,contains an order of magnitude more of this substance than that of other sciurid spiders such asthe recluse. San Pedro Trip

To celebrate completing their exams, students inY11, 12, and 13 spent 5 days and 4 nights in SanPedro de Atacama. An arduous but invigoratingexperience was had by all. From sand boardingdown the dunes in the Valley of Death, to scalingsummits in the Moon Valley, the studentsexperienced nature as only Chile can provide. Weawoke early to see the geysers throwing hotwater out into the cold, a stench of sulfurpervading our senses. We stayed up late to seethe clearest night imaginable; seeing stars,planets, and galaxies glimmer in the dark sky. Thestudents visited the ALMA observatory, the topradioastronomy telescope in the world, saw thescientists and engineers hard at work. Finally,they explored the area on horseback, visitingruins around the town.
