We Kicked Butt and Took Names

Where do I start? 74 pre -registered and 83 day of show! Wait a cotton picking minute that was last year.

We pre – registered 65 and 110 day of show! I‘ll leave Batman out of it for now, but Holy Cow… an un-

believable day, and a great day to be outdoors! Like last year, they just kept coming.

For the first time at KeyFood, we filled the lot. A special thank you to Phil Borzumato from the Mustang

Shelby Club, who has been pro active since early April with his club to attend our show. …from his club

alone - (45) Mustangs. Let us not forget their head guy Rick Wertz, and VP John Dettori.

Now, for the weather: Picture perfect - not a cloud in the sky, and the humidity was nonexistent. I always pick on Mother Nature, but not to-

day. We mixed things up a little today. Dennis Benfante, Art Fleming, and Ken Weinberg worked the tent on the day of the show. The Pre-

registered tent was run by Bruce and Dianne Daly from T.O.N.Y. and some of the other volunteers also dropped by to pitch in.

Our DJ this year was Bob Marketta - AKA Mr. Music. He kept the tunes going all through the event. Bob also pitched in and helped with the

parking as did Paul Rosina, and Frank Skrivanek. Paul also picked the best in show cars from the Mustang Shelby Club and overall from our

show. Part of the crew of volunteers was Joe Marchione, John Cattonar, and Stan and Mindy Matusewitz from T.O.N.Y.

The 50/50 was $488.00 and was won by T.O.N.Y. members – Robert & Katherine Groen. We had many great prizes to raffle off from Advance

Auto, and from Jim Lauvita from Pep Boys, and Angela Slater from Crofgate. Allen Leon from BP donated two $25.00 BP gas cards to be

given to the folks who drove the longest distance to get to us. He also got us two back packs with goodies inside and an outstanding tool kit

also from BP.

Some More Numbers: Thirty four little Birds, and twenty eight BIG BIRDS. …Sixty two in total in a group of one hundred and seventy five,

nice work everyone….

Great News: Because of our success we will be cutting a check this week to Building Homes for Heroes for close to $3,000.00. Put that in

your Funk and Wagnall and smile.

The Not Paying Attention: Since I do most of the ordering for the show in regards to T- shirts, and plaques, I made a critical mistake by not

ordering enough plaques, but we did make a list of all the winners, and anybody we missed, we ordered more awards. When they are ready they

will be mailed or delivered by hand to the recipient.

STEVE SIBEN

All of the above would have not happened if it was not for Steve Siben of Siben and Siben Law Firm. Steve stepped right up to the plate last

year and said: ―I‘m in‖. There are not enough adjectives to describe what he has meant to our show. We thank you…………..

ALLEN LEON

A special thank you again to Alan Leon, our good friend who is Mr. BP on Long Island, and is one of the ‗down to earth‘ guys I know. He has

always been there for us - gracious, supportive, and knows more about gas/petroleum than the Pope. Does the Pope know gas/petroleum? Ru-

mor has it that he is opening a deli at one of his stations. The sign will read: ―Eat Here and Gas Up‖! I love this guy…………..

A Special Award For This Year’s Show: One of our own LITC members, Larry Werkstell, who at shows we attend together as a group, al-

ways finds himself either parked close to the bathrooms or porta potties, at a show. If you look at some the pictures from our show you will see

him again parked next to the porta potties at KeyFood, so we decided to give him his own piece of the pie. We called it the first and only

―Shittenhauser Award‖.

Our Back of the T-Shirt Sponsors – Now, the shirt people, who appear on the back of our T-shirt, and I know it sounds like something out of

Sesame Street, but these are real people who support us every year: Mike Rau from Tires Inc, Bob Fregenti from Fregenti Insurance, and our

own Bob Ceraso – Legendary Thunderbird Parts & Cars.

OUR NEXT CLUB FUNCTION & MEETING

August Club Outdoor Meeting/Thursday, August 9th at the KeyFood Shopping Center in Kings Park: We are back at KP for a few rea-

sons. The volunteers will be rewarded on this day by having pizza on the house. It‘s our way of saying thank you for their efforts on Sunday,

July 8th. Rather than get creative for August why not return to where our show‘s success was. We cannot buy pizza for everyone like we do at

Bertucci‘s and hopefully nobody will get offended.

Cruizin’ For A Cure/Sunday, September 16, 2018: Our next big September club event will be Cruizin‘ For A Cure on Sunday, September

16th at their new location which is in Westbury, at 1400 Old Country Road, just west off the Wantagh Parkway. With Sandy Kane‘s new venue

you must pre- register in order to guarantee you a spot. As in the past, we meet early, and early is 7:00 AM sharp, and then we caravan over to

the show. Doing this will guarantee that we will be able to park together. This year‘s meeting place will be a TBA. Please go to their web site

and pre- register. www.licruzinforacure.com

One more item before we close - A special ‘Thank You’ to Ray Guarino & Joe D at Motor Mouth Radio – WHPC 90.3 FM, http://

www.motormouthradio.com/ who allowed Dennis Benfante and me to come on their show, Sunday July 1st and talk about our event and as-

sorted items. By the way, if you call 516-572-7440 during a live MotorMouth Radio broadcast you can be on the air stumping Ray & Joe with

your fabulously articulate question.

…and you‘re welcome.

Dennis Benfante TONY Message

13th. ANNUAL THUNDERBIRD / ALL FORD SHOW

Holy Cow !! In the immortal words of the late Phil Rizzuto, we hit it out of the park on Sunday July 8th.

As you remember, last year we lost our sponsorship and were in fear of ending our show. But, one of our members, Steve

Siben stepped up to the plate and promised to sponsor us this year. Well, Steve was true to his word. A great big Thank

You to Steve and his lovely wife Sherry. Through the generosity of them both and the Law Firm of Siben & Siben we

were able to have our 13th Annual Show. And what a show it was.

I'm sure the weather helped, it was warm but not stifling hot so that made for a better attendance. We had 175

beautiful automobiles show up. A quick breakdown shows 34 ―Little Birds‖ ('55 to'57) then 28 ―Big Birds‖ ('58 to '97)

And then with to the support of the Mustang Shelby Club of Long Island there were over 40 Mustangs. Due to their ef-

forts and participation we even created special classes and also a special award for the Best of Show in the Mustang cate-

gory. So, basically over 100 T'Birds and Mustangs. The remainder were all types of Fords, Mercury's and Lincolns.

Now back to the show....So many Thank Yous ..to all the volunteers From T.O.N.Y. We had, Bob Ceraso,Stan

and Mindy Matusewitz, Joe Marchione, John Cattonar and of course THE DALYS. Dianne and Bruce are an intrigue part

to the success of the show with their tireless support. Not to mention, how nice Dianne folds the shirts and Bruce's efforts

selling 50/50's

From L.I.T.C Ken Weinburg, Artie Fleming, Paul Rosina Frank Skrivanek our DJ, Bob Marketta, who inciden-

tally donated his time and of course The Man, Elliott Weiner, who without all his time and effort there would be no show.

More Thank yous to our Friend Allen Leon, who donated many raffle gifts and two Gas Gift Cards as an award to

the furthest traveled. Who by the way are Roger Mills from Woburn and Joe Menahan from Franklin both in Massachu-

setts As with any major undertaking there are some bumps in the road. There was some questioning about the judging.

Some cars in some categories were not judged, because the owner was not by the car and or the trunk and hoods were not

opened. We also have to take into consideration the number of cars that showed up. The judges expected up to 130 cars

but as stated earlier there were 175. so lets have some patience and next year we will get it right. .We also had some prob-

lems, we ran out of plaques, so some winners had to wait for their awards to be mailed to them, which were sent out on

Monday July 16th.

Here are the winners from T.O.N.Y

Class ―A‖ 1955 T'Bird Marge Scomello

Class ―B‖ 1956 T'Bird 1st.Place Mike Tinnierello

2nd. Place Ed Correa

3rd. Place Sal Perotta

Class ―C‖ 1957 T'Bird 1st. Place Joe Marchione

2nd Place Dennis Terrell

#rd Place Lou Realmuto

Steve Siben took 3rd place in the Modified Class with his 1954 Ford Crestliner with the half see through hood.

The ―Best in Show went to our own Joe Nolan with his Red '57 T'Bird

But the Biggest Winner is Homes for Heroes. A check for $3,000.00 will be sent by Ken Weinburg to them ASAP.

GROUP LIFT PURCHASE Is anyone interested in buying a 4-post lift for their garage? I am refurbishing my garage, and have done some research on lifts. I have settled on the Backyard Buddy 7,000lb.

Standard Lift. BYB can store 2 cars in the space of one, requiring just 9' wide, 16' long, 9' ceiling height, and a 120V outlet to store one car above another car, where the lower car is

60" at its highest point or less (e.g. my 1970 Boss 302 on top of my 2013 Boss 302, for ex-ample). The lift is made in Warren, OH, has the best construction & lift locking system in my

opinion, offers jacks, drip pans, and wheels for movement, and offers the best warranty I can find. Go to their website & see for yourself www.backyardbuddy.com. It is also probably the

most expensive 4-post lift at $4,595. But I want one! I would like to assemble a group of 10 or more car guys living here on Long Island who would

like to buy this lift this summer. Then I intend to take the order to the All Ford Nationals (June 2-4), where Backyard Buddy will have a booth. My theory is in addition to the $300 -

400 show special, I can negotiate a volume price delivered to one "area". By negotiating a group purchase discount added to the reduced freight and the show special, I am going to try

to knock $ 500 - 1,000 off the standard retail price of the lift.

Please realize (1) You will still have to pay someone to install the lift at your home ($500 -

1,000), (2) You will have to modify your garage door tracks to clear the lift (~$200), (3) There is no guarantee of the final price; I can only try to get the $1,000 discount I seek. But

10 units should get us some discount; 20+ units will entice the manufacture to give a sub-stantial discount. As an additional incentive, I would invite the Backyard Buddy Marketing

team to come to Long Island and talk to / interview those who participated for their advertis-ing testimonials.

Please contact me by phone or email (below) with any questions, giving me your name, your

email address, phone, and address as confirmation you are willing to spend the necessary funds in June-July. Thank you!
