    CHAPTER I

    INTRODUCTION

    A. Background Of The Problem

    Reading is essential to success in the complex world of today and

    tomorrow. The ability to read is highly valued and its important for personal,

    social, and economic well-being. For the learner, the ability to read is very

    important which are they would get refferencess for their studies a lot of in

    English later in university level. Teaching reading is very important besides

    speaking, listening and writing for master in English by the students.

    ccording to !eyler "#$$%& '( reading is the process of obtaining and

    constructing meaning from a word or a cluster word. )n that reading students

    should comprehend the text, its called reading comprehension. ccording to

    *unan "+( defined reading comprehension through the bottom-up approach

    reading is viewed as a process of decoding written symbols, working from

    smaller units to larger one.

    Reading is a complex and linguistic process. )t involves decoding

    alphabetic symbols, drawing upon experiences and language, and using strategies

    effectively to make meaning. !o that to teaching reading teacher needs well

    preperation.

    )n teaching English, especially in teaching reading teacher should

    prepared as well as before coming to the class to teach the learners. Teacher

    preaparation like materials, strategy, media, techniue, and evaluation where are

    included in lesson plan is very important. /ood preperation will make learning

    process will be effective and learning purpose will be easier achived.

    0esson plan as a description steps of what the teacher do in class has

    important role. 0esson plan make the learning process will more effective,

    because the teacher would provide the most suitable steps in learning for their

    learner which are the teacher known how their students learning style, like the

    students in class learning seriously but the students in class 1 play in learning.

    1esides that lesson plan will guide the teacher if they forget what they want to do

    in middle of learning process and also the lesson plan useful for control time for

    the teacher.

    1ased on the role of lesson plan, the government has to the teacher use

    lesson plan in teaching and learning process. )t put in minister rule #$$2 th*o %+

    about standard process of elementary and secondary line&

    1ut, the fact in the field show that lesson plan is only used as a

    benchmark for basic tasks and functions of a teacher, is no longer a measure of

    the success of the teaching and learning process for learners. 5ost of the teacher

    are la6y to make a lesson plan, lesson plan 4ust to fulfill sertification

    reuirements and also lesson plan will be exist when supervisor come to the

    school for checking teacher. That was phenomenon happened. )t influence to the

    achievement for the learner to learning material fully. 0earner would not master

    the material because the learning process run is not effectively.

    1ased on my observation as long as i did teaching practice "770( for %

    month. ) saw that the teacher did not use lesson plan in teaching and learning

    process. They have the lesson plan but it has been made in previous year. The

    steps of the teaching process is unstructured. !ometimes teacher getting confused

    in the middle of teaching and learning, too uick in giving materials, and

    0earning process monotone.

    1ased the phenomenon happened, the uesion comes whether the lesson

    plan is already not important8 )n the other hand the researcher as pre-service

    teacher need to know does the teacher refers to the lesson plan in teaching and

    learning. nd then based on the background of the problem above, the writer

    interested to conduct the research under the title of An analysis of teacher

    lesson plan in Teaching Reading skill at grade XII of Islamic Senior High

    School 1 Payakumbuh

    B. Identification of the Problem

    s stated in background of the problem above. The identification of

    problem on this reseach found that the phenomenon happened show the teachers

    are la6y to make lesson plan. The teacher do not use the lesson plan in teaching

    and learning process.

    The purposes of the study are

    1. To find out the teacher refers to the lesson plan in teaching and learning

    process in teaching reading.

    2. To find out the appropriate of lesson plan are made by teacher.

    E. #ignificance Of The #tud$

    The result of this study is expected to give the information and knowledge to

    the teacher and the researcher. !ome of those are as following& Firstly, for

    English teacher hopefully this research can give convinction for the teacher

    that lesson plan is very important in teaching and learning process so they will

    start to prepare the lesson plan well. !econdly, for researcher is to complete a

    reuirements to obtain academic degree and increase the ability in English and

    teaching english. Finally for reader can improve their knowledge that lesson

    plan is one of important in teaching English .

    To avoid missunderstanding, it is necessary to give definition to some
