Chapter 1THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUNDThis chapter includes the ideas, finished thesis, generalization or conclusions and others. Those that were included in this chapter helps in familiarizing information that are relevant and similar to the present study. Today, information technology (IT) is universally regarded as an essential tool in enhancing the competitiveness of the economy of a country. And many students are failing in this part of taking IT course resulting in slower development of technology than it must be. According to research studies, there is no single explanation for failure, but they found seven reasons why students fail their grades: lack of personal direction, pressure from parents or peers, laziness, lack of confidence, family or relationship problems, drug problems, and involvement in social and athletic activities. Each of these explanations dont exclusively affect their failure, but most students mention two or more of these reasons in their explanations. The most common reason why they fail is lack of direction. They just focus on raising their grades, but they dont even know what they want to be or what their goal in their life is; therefore, they lose interest by losing direction. Moreover, this explanation also leads to laziness in their studying. The second reason that brings about failure is pressure. Pressure can be from either their parents or peers. Parents compel students to reach a high level of excellence, and they also have high expectations; therefore students are busy meeting their parents expectations, and in the end they lose their pace.As we can see the 2nd year of being IT student is the crucial part of taking the IT course. This stage will determine if you are qualified in becoming professional IT, because in this stage youll be taking the basic fundamentals of becoming IT professional. Some students takes IT course because of the reason that if you graduated they will have a convenient life. Therefore 2nd year IT students grades are essential to have convenient technology in the near future.SCOPE AND DELIMITATIONThis study is focus on Factors that affects the grade of 2nd year IT students in Batangas State University Malvar Campus which results in failing the subject.
